So what's on your mind lately?
  2. For striking styles, I can't tell you very much given that I haven't really done much striking training. There doesn't seem to be any good MT in town, and I'm not sure about other styles.
Hope this helps, and if you're interested in training at TBJJ or Rincon let me know and we'll get in touch. Best of luck finding a place, if I think of anything else i'll let you know.
  3. Don Frye drops by the Rincon club fairly often, but let me warn you, for God's sake don't roll with him or his guys, as they tend to be quite hard on new folks. Don't let this scare you off, though, everyone in the Judo club proper is very cool and accepting to newcomers. Steve also has a class at Mitts and Mats that might be better suited to MMA style judo, but I haven't been and couldnt tell you much more.
  4. If you'd prefer Judo, Steve Owen is an excellent coach, running classes on a free/donation basis at the Rincon High gym. These are open to everybody, but if you decide to go please contact him in advance to make sure it's cool. I'll get back to you with his phone/email if you're interested. He's a very cool, old school teacher who knows a few of the early UFC guys, and will tell you all kinds of stories if you catch him at the right time.
  5. Hey,
It depends what you're interested in. If you're interested in grappling, there's excellent BJJ and Judo in town. For BJJ, I'll be shameless and recommend where I train, at Tucson Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We've got a very active competition team and train with an emphasis on full speed and resistance rolling. We also have the first american to win IBJJF Worlds as a brown belt, as well as a number of other high finishers in the big california tourneys.

a bit more to add, so a few more incoming

Hey, I noticed you're in Tucson also and I was wondering if you knew of any good training groups or places (any style) that might be obscure enough not to come up in an online search. I work full time in the military and am putting myself through school, so my schedule is tight and I haven't been able to find a place that really works out for me. I swear, Tucson feels so devoid of activity a lot of the time.
