- 1st degree black belt in Shotokan Karate. Took 8 years to get it, mostly because my dojo was very clique-ish and I wasn't in the clique...mostly because they were training to win tournaments and I was interested in real-life self-defense.
Lots of Karate tournaments: I can say honestly that I never lost. However, I was disqualified many times because most of the tournaments had way too many rules. However, I still have more than a few medals to show for my trouble.
green belt in Kodokan Judo. Studied for about three years Studied as part of a college club and participated in a total of 5 regional tournaments, since our college didn't have a judo team.
studied Tae Kwon Do for about 2 weeks, quit because that particular school was completely weak.
Studied for about 2 years at an MMA-based school, with heavy focus on JKD and BJJ. Enjoyed the training, as it was anything but weak, but did not like the mentality behind it.
studied Bujinkan for about two months, got frustrated because all they showed me was kata, so I found another teacher.
Currently studying Old-school Bujinkan...which means that I was lucky enough to find a teacher who learned it back in the 70's and 80's before it was softened down for the masses. Believe me, there is a huge difference.
