I'm an old TKD guy who went off to grad school got fat and took aikido. I'm applying for an airforce job so I have to lose weight. Aikido wasn't helping so I checked out a new gym near my place. I had forgotten how much I loved kicking and sparring and working a bag. So I'm a noobish MT convert. I'm even thinking I might try to do a fight or two now. How did you guys get into the art of the eight limbs?
Well I've always been interested in MT. I did a bit when I was a kid and was then on and off when I was a teen. More interested in partying and generally being a P.I.T.A. Well I am now 27 and have been training hard for the last seven months in a local gym. and am loving it.
I have my first fight coming up on Friday in an inter-club event that is being used as a promotional event for a competition the following weekend.
So, wish me luck, and I will report back here with my outcome!
Best of luck tintin! You think you'll have vid of your fight?
Yeah thanks mate. I am hoping to get it recorded, but I don't kow if they (the host gym) wll do it, or I will get one of our guys to record it for me.
How did the fight go??
Lost, but learnt a lot to take back to the gym for the future. I'll be posting a video as soon as it's loaded onto youtube. The better fighter won for sure!
Sorry for the loss man, but I bet you'll be even more prepared for the next one! Look forward to seeing the video.
Soooo, finally got the video sorted. I couldn't get it to upload for some reason. It was saying that it would take over 800 hours to upload one of five clips to youtube so I thought, screw it, I'll poach one from a friend. Here is the link to all but one fights of the night. We are the team fighting out of the red corner. Mine is Tony "tintin" Martin.
No laughing at me slipping on my ass when I attempt a head kick early on. I knew it was going to happen from the day I signed up to the fight so it didn't piss me off, but still embarrassing!
**** that guy's leg kicks looked pretty brual, but you got in some awesome shots too. I especially liked 1) those big punches you threw around minute 7 and 2) your girlfriend cheering you on the whole time ;-)
ha ha, yeah it seemed liek that's all he had worked as everything else he threw was pretty average at best. He had been training for a few months as he was supposed to rematch my mate but as my mate ended up with a viral infection just before the fight and I was the same (ish) weight, they put us together.
I don't think I did too bad considering it was my first fight. I do really need to work on my check though as I only checked one or two kicks, and by that time my leg was done in anyway so it was almost pointless!
Still, I'll be back soon after my vacation to hit training hard and will go at it once I am where I want to be! :D
Did you watch any of the other fights? The one with Troy was fun to watch. Only his second fight and he looked like a pro. The guy has a mean left cross (he's a lefty, but we let him off for it)
