Ricky Hatton floored with one punch in bar fight

Former World champion boxer Ricky Hatton has been floored in a pub brawl.

The fighter known as “the Hitman” was knocked out by a single punch to the face after an argument broke out over a fruit machine. A bodybuilder twice his size accused him of pushing in front of him in a queue for the machine.

Hatton, 31, was knocked across tables and on to the floor. He then lay dazed on the floor of the Railway Inn in Hyde, Manchester, for several seconds.

Pals had to take him home to the nearby mansion he shares with girlfriend Jennifer Dooley. The attack came amid claims of a family rift over the fighter’s drinking.

A source said: "Getting floored in the pub shows how low he’s sunk. His family are terrified he’s going to do a Paul Gascoigne.”

Hatton’s spokesman would not comment.

Cocaine video puts former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton’s career at risk

Ricky Hatton may have hammered the final nail in the coffin of his glittering career after he was allegedly caught snorting cocaine.

The 31-year-old boxing legend was apparently captured on video footage taking the drug on a night out with friends.

In one shot he appears to cut the drug into lines with a credit card before rolling up a bank note and snorting it off a table.

He is alleged to have had seven lines of cocaine in three separate sessions, downed about 11 pints of Guinness as well as four vodkas, two glasses of wine and several sambucas during the evening.

The former world champion – known as The Hitman – has still to retire officially from the sport following a succession of multi-million-pound title fights. Hatton has not fought since being sensationally knocked out in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas in May 2009.

But the British Board of Boxing Control could decide to suspend, fine or even withdraw his boxing licence indefinitely.

The revelations, published yesterday, will stun millions of boxing fans, the many charities who rely on him, his nine-year-old son, Campbell, and fiancee Jennifer Dooley.

Yesterday Hatton issued a statement through publicist Max Clifford saying he felt he had let himself, his fans and his family down.

Mr Clifford said: ‘In his own words, he’s been in a bad place for some time, probably before even his last fight.

‘He feels devastated and we all hope this will be the wake-up call.’

The News of the World claims the video footage was captured during a ten-hour bender at a Manchester hotel two weeks ago while Hatton was with friend Emma Bowe, 29, the Irish national senior women’s boxing champion.

She said: ‘I’m only talking about this because Ricky is a danger to himself. If he carries on like this he’ll kill himself.

‘I’m really, really worried for him, especially if he tries to make a comeback in the ring as he’s hinted – he could have a heart attack.’

This really sucks, I hope he can get it back together as he's a great fighter. He's still young and has a lot ahead of him

I agree with you PizDoff, people take these low roads, it will show strength of character to pull himself back into the ring and on top again, I hope he does it.

I'm pissed off because I had a link ready to post here, you quick bastard. Is there anything you can do about that monkey scrotum cleaning website that keeps popping up? Or is that strategically placed to alleviate the tone of the articles?

PM Phrost. Basically I recall some guy spamming his site here a while ago, so we changed all his links to automatically display that text. If you get it, just reference the main URL or article URL in a text-only format, ie, don't make it a hyperlink.

Thanks, that's bizarre.
Must have been a placeholder in the article text itself when I copied it over.

This really sucks, I hope he can get it back together as he's a great fighter. He's still young and has a lot ahead of him

A couple of quick points - yes, I read both articles yesterday.

1. Bodybuilder twice his size. Single punch.
Well, if you're caught unawares and you've had a light ale, then anyone can be KO'd. I'll bet Mr Muscle wouldn't DARE try it with Lennox Lewis - likely to be much more his size. It's a likely sneak attack by an egotistical bastard. It's also reason why boxers have bodyguards outside of the ring.

2. Ricky let slip recently that he's unlikely to return to the Ring except as a Promoter. That's it. He's finished. He wants to go out on a win but why bother. He had a tremendous career. He now needs a little self-defence to steer clear of drugs and to watch his drinking (always excessive in the past). In short, "don't piss it all against the wall".

Well, if you're caught unawares and you've had a light aleRemember, we're dealing with Fat Ricky, not Ring Fit Ricky... twice his size could mean upwards of 40 stone here!

And face it, after 14 pints and a football pitch worth of white lines, he was "dazed" long before the punch landed.

So is the fruit machine they were in line for an actual vending machine or was it, you know, somebody's nickname?

I don't think that is what should be inferred here..
Instead, we should acknowledge that being a welterweight or lightweight champ does not mean you can tussle with man who outweighs you by 50-70 lbs and hope to win in most instances. And being drunk doesn't help your chances either.
I hope Hatton gets things straightened out.Even if he does not box again I am sure he would make a good trainer.
