Forearms work well from side control; bend arm 90 degrees and drop forearm on head (or body).
I agree with the man who said 'headlock'. It does work even against the best fighters. Carlos Newton took out pat militech with one if I recall correctly.

Sure did... saw it in Atlantic City.
Man - wish I lived in the states or japan. Never get to see big name fighters like that in the UK :(

I went ahead and voted for backfist because ronin did and he is a god.
Actually, I've been instructed to "hammer" instead of actually using the back of my fist. I was told that this was so I don't break any bones in my hand while smashing it into someones skull on accident.

I must vote forearm.
In Kali, we do a lot of these, using the motion of the sticks, and it works wonders...very fast and powerful blow. The only thing is range, and the chance of being shooted into the ground...

Pizdoff is correct.
I was thinking about going with sidekicks, but I don't think that they're underrated, so much as they're under-utilized. In the end I went with Ronin, although I think that backfists are just one of many excellent techniques that are overlooked because they don't work with gloves.
I've seen people get stunned with backfists in POINT sparring. They work plenty fine even with gloves on and under goofy rules.

Andy Hug had a somewhat famous and really badass spinning backfist KO in K-1. I can't remember right now who was on the recieving end of it, but it was certainly TIZIGHT!!1
Dare I ask what a spearhand is? Kicking is overrated. Most hand moves are underrated. I think any kind of a wrist lock is underrated. They're so damn hard to learn tho.

And I would vote front kick, except for the fact that this poll is about UNDERRATED techniques. Who the hell thinks front kicks aren't very useful?
I actually voted side kick because so many TKDoofuses throw it without any idea how to set it up in a fight. This gives it a bad name and makes it look much less useful and effective. Now, it certainly isn't the MOST useful kick I know by any means, but I have hit Thai Boxers, Kung Fu people, and a lot of Kyokushin people with it and caught them very off guard. I usually use it when someone angles outward on the side of my lead foot. That puts them in a perfect line up for the kick and it usually leaves them too far away to retaliate if I miss.
