Thank you for the head's up. I am interested in the "Swordplay in the Age of Shakespeare." I'll have to be on the lookout for that one.

I heard that Stephen Hand's work is of very poor quality. I haven't read any of his material myself but am interested in the English Tradition. Maybe those of you who have read his stuff can give me additional opinions?

Not really my field of interest, but what I've read of Stephen Hand's work has been of notably high quality. I'm aware that he has had serious online disagreements with other devotees of George Silver's system, etc., though I don't know the details.

Thanks DdlR,

I figured I'd get around to reading his stuff anyway and forming my own opinion, but without any positive comments it would probably linger near the bottom of my to-read list for a quite awhile.

Imagine, controversy in the martial arts about who has the real deal!

I'm open to read anything. After awhile, it becomes easier to perform some critique of the sources and decide who's good and bad. I don't really have a firm opinion right now. And my interest in this material, for the moment, is purely academic.

I'm looking forward to seeing if any members have any reviews or comments about these books. I'm still working my way through a book on Scottics Highland Broadsword and another book on sword and buckler. Once I finish them, I will probably get material on German Longsword, just not sure what yet.
