If he's looking to have an actual credible career he should be fighting people in his own weight class, starting out with inexperienced ones and working up. Freak-show matches aren't going to make him a better fighter.
I assume he is taking what K-1 gives him? How much control does he have in that system over who/when he fights. Of course, your are correct, though. I'm guessing he will work his way up the ladder/system. I'm no expert, but I'd say he has a long way to go before fighting skilled guys his weight class with a decent chance of success.

He doesn't have to fight for K-1.
Of course, your are correct, though. I'm guessing he will work his way up the ladder/system.If history is any guide they will have him beat up a couple more undersized no-hopers/kick-boxers who don't know how to grapple and then toss him in with Overeem or Fedor at two weeks notice.

Definitely. In addition, what he's doing is not the way to get there.

So, you think he is just earning some money and knows what is going on, or is being taken advantage of ? Or both?

Hard to form an opinion, not knowing the man. Going from his public image he doesn't strike me as notably full of guile and cunning and he made a lot of noise about wanting to train the right way, fight at the highest level etc. earlier on. So perhaps he's just being badly advised?

It's hard to say. I would think there would be various routes to the top level he wants to achieve. My understanding is that the world of Japanese MMA is pretty convoluted, so I guess we'll just have to see how he develops over time.

Neat Fact: Ronda Rousey's mom was the first American to win an international title and consequently the first woman to do it.

George Harris won the Pan American Championships in 1958, Ben 'Nighthorse' Campbell won the Pan American Championships in 1963, George Harris won his division in the same year, James 'Jim' Bregman won the Pan American Championships in 1965.
Although Annmaria Burns/ de Mars/ Rousey maybe the first America female to have won a world championship, she is not the first American to have won an international title.
American Judo is not particularly well renowned I think only Pedro and sometimes Swain have been mentioned by the high level Judoka I have had the priviledge of training under. I have only heard Pedro's name mentioned in regards to a turnover and Swain's in regard to an approach to O uchi gari.
Pedro's turnover by a multiple national champion and Swain by a two times national champion and world champion producing coach.
It is no coincidence that the two nations most renowned for artistry, 'classical' technique and technical perfection are also those that head the Olympic medal table: Japan and France,
The stuff dismissed by the genius kyu grades and cross-Atlantic experts that crop on the internet is the same stuff that is taught at the bgeinner level is places like Japan and France and is the reason they are so good at Judo!

Did anyone get that she is "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey? That's a testement to Gene LeBell's faith in her, as she's taken the nckname of GL's senior black belt (Rowdy Roddy Piper).

I'm a Rousey ovary rider, but I'm really curious to know what's going to happen when she has a fight that lasts over a minute

What happens is that she doesn't get the armbar.

That too, but the fact that her opponents know its coming and they cant stop it. Watching her grappling videos, I'm sure she has other weapons in the clinch and on the ground. I really wonder what kind of power she has in her strikes if she cant take someone down.
Its a good thing that I wasn't aware of her while she was in Wakefield. I dont know if I could've handled it.
