That looks like an americana. The hand goes up towards the head, versus down by the waist.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I can never tell the difference! I just always say Kimuracana! That way no one can say I'm wrong?

that is a modified americana - looks like to submit he would have to rotate the hand towards the feet.

the kimura would submit by rotating the hand towards the head.

Ronin69 - that's twice this week you posted the wrong picture! :-)

Unless you're calling it "ude-garame" or whatever the Japanese is, you have to differentiate. I learned that as an "Americana".

here's my (ignorant) question of the day.

what's the difference between an americana, key lock and paint brush (and I'm talking about the grappling moves you bunch of smart asses!).

I have them all as the same technique.

They are the same. Though I've seen key lock refer to a few different things.

Most commonly the americana.

I believe catch wrestlers call a bicep crush a key lock (not sure about this one).

Mike Swain calls tieing up someones arm in their own gi a key lock.

Some call the variation of kimura/americana where the arm is STRAIGHT and you get the elbow in a straight elbow lock a keylock.

Americana and Paintbrush are the same move. Elbow bent around 90 and pointing straight up.

Keylock is a compression lock.

In judo they are both called Ude and I have them saved as that.
