Just wondering if any of you guys have gone into Kumite/Point Scoring and what your experiances have been. Thanks :) :walk:

what do you mean? has anyone gone from MMA to point kumite?

I wouldn't think there would be too many guys like that here except for some karate guys who may do both.

I tried a bit of point sparring at my old karate dojo but its difficult for full contact guys to 'light' by some karate standards.

Pretty much what I asked MMAMickey, :)

The only "point" scoring system I've seen ends up being full contact to legs and body and just light enough to head so it won't result in a knockout.

I dont think I've ever heard of somebody moving from full contact anything to point sparring.

It might possibly happen in the initial stages of training, if a person doesn't like the level of contact being made, and looks for something lighter, but even this, I would imagine, is pretty rare, cause if you've never done ma before, and some guy gives you a dig, your most likely though will be, "well that must be how it works in ma"

Loads of people have made the switch the other way

YouTube- Fight Japan: JKA fighter Richard Heselton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESudu4Iwz-w)

But no, not a famous world class full contact athlete, because, really, who would give that up to to play an amateur sport for no $?

I used to do point karate.
It is by far the most obnoxious sport I've ever done. Having a referee up in your business to declare that no one scored a point every ten seconds is just about as annoying as possible.

Yeah, torimasen, that is really the most aggravating part. It's like, someone's little brother poking you repeatedly just to say hi.

they also reeeeally dont like it when you don't stop when they shout 'yummy'

..the amount of times I got DQ'd was embarrassing. seriously. my self control was fucking awful back then

Well IMO any good martial Artist should be able to control his power. "I can only hit break-your-jaw strong" or barely touch weak should be no excuse.

its a good job I dont consider myself a martial artist then isn't it?
do you consider yourself a martial artist?
would you say you are representative of the typical martial artist?

Not sure if you're going for irony here or not, but anyway...

I've heard excuses like, "Ohh I work too hard on the bags, then I can't take it easy on a match"

Martial Arts teach control, right? So why again would a martial artist not be able to control his power?

I assure you I am not going for irony. I am not a martial artist.

Now answer the questions.
