I may be an idiot, but at least I show respect to other systems regardless of the opinions I may privately hold about them.

I find it very amusing to read the critique of others especially when it's painfully clear some of these critics have little or no experience of the system it's self. Band wagon and jumping on springs to mind

How do you know it looks like ****? Seriously to many the don't have the slightest idea of what to look for in a good MA. So you are limited by your own ignorance. The cure for the is to experience and see. Even if you were given sparring clips would you know what to look for?

respect is often used as a shield against reality.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that pretty much all aikido media is highly gay. No bandwagon, it just looks ****.
And you've just made my point for me.

Critique and opinion based upon ignorance.

You said..
it just looks ****

"Looks" not exactly compelling argument is it.. what looks "****" to you may not be. I respect your opinion, like assholes we're all entitled to one but You'll keep making yourself look dense when you say Aikido looks gay. Study the system and them tell me based upon personal experiences, not just an opinion of what you've 'seen'

DaveH

Because your opinion is worthless when you slate a system you know **** all about. You tar all aikido with the same brush that also shows a lack of intelligence and comprehention

To me it is obivious that the video clips are meant to be examples of what class and training would be like at the school. If you go the page there are a lot more. You see students messing up and the sensei helping them. You see a women instructor demonstarting and instructing a technique.

The schools website also says:

Aikido is founded on a philosophy of harmony. There should never be any fighting or competition in the training area. Nor is training a time to display your strength and flaunt your ego. Train always in a spirit of cooperation and modesty.

These guys aren't trying to show how "bad-ass" they are. Doing so would go against their own philosophy.

Aikido is basically a one-trick pony, but that trick is pretty good. Aikido teachs you to blend with your opponents actions and use his momentum against himself. The realiife application may not look as pretty or will not be as complicated, but that's no different than any art.

When I look at aikido I see the usefullness. Maybe not of the techniques themselves, but the base strategy. I can see how the techniques could be usefull training tools.

Osiris,

A lot of ground fighting looks gay and doesn't look effective to an person who doesn't know what they are seeing. Every UFC I watch with friends there is still a new guy that says "The guy grabbed his foot, and that big dude tapped? What a *****".

Right on mate.

I point back to my very first post, the no0b who posted these clips hasn't a fucking clue either, if he had, he'd have posted why he thought the clips were lame. Another example of ignorance

Osiris- Case in point, I showed our Mcthrowdown video to a friend at work and he couldn't believe how ghey it was. When I was trying to break out fof your closed guard he started laughing and asking just how gay are we? Then at the end of the tape he never even saw the ankle lock he just asked why the clip stopped there.

You keep reinforcing my point, you cannot critique a system until you know WTF you are talking about YOU DON'T it's that simple to see.

You want to be able to slag off something because it looks **** and proberbly because others express the same opinion ala "Band waggon"

You haven't a clue, have you.

But what he did see was the application of judo against a fully resisting opponent. The details he would have to study to see, but the fact that something happened should be fairly obvious. Just like an aikido sparring clip. I wouldnt be pointing out thir exact techniques, but I could tell that something actually happened. I was working out in the school gym the other day and I beat one of my buddies. A guy was watching and he asked "Who won?". Didnt have a clue what was happening, but the fact that technique had been applied in an effort to defeat an uncooperative opponent was obvious.
Sounds like a hypocryte talking now. One post you slagg off aikido because it simply "looks ****" then when someone actually presents a case in question, you then make a completely different point about an "application" "against a fully resisiting opponent" The bottom line mate, dont spout off about something you know **** all about because you'll make yourself look arse.

LMAO

Osiris:
Im getting on aikido because it looks retarded. You seem to think that I should spend several hundred dollars before voicing an opinion. How dumb is that?

The only thing retarded here mate is the opinion of a person who knows nothing about a system he wants to trash.

"How dumb is that?" If you want me and others to actually consider your opinions as valid, base those opinions on actual experiences where you can say "I've been there tried that and it was ****" The, I'd have repect for you and your opinion. Otherwise, you'll just be another fool who *thinks* he knows what Aikido is actually about.

for all the talking you’re doing, you don’t have **** to show. I post at anytime a reasonably impressive video of any style I claim. Doesn’t seem you can.

This is starting to sound like a playground isn't it.

I've never claimed that Aikido was a fighting art or, that I can fight or display any form of sparing video. This debate was about the clips posted by a No0b and your subsequent attitude based on nothing more than ignorance for something you obviously feel is inferior.
