Vitor Belfort has a shoulder injury and is out of the UFC 112 title fight with Anderson Silva.

Son of a bitch, now we gotta watch Sonnon get his ass kicked?
maybe Sonnen gets what he's wanted all along. I'm in, as long as Silva defend on UFC 112, I'm good. Vitor wasn't the most worthy guy but it still had good fight written all over it.
Sonnen won't take the fight. His medical suspension from injuries against Marquardt would seriously cut into his training camp. It's not a definite no since I haven't talked to the man himself, but the buzz is it ain't happening.
Silva's still on the card, though. It might actually be Maia.

Was looking forward to this fight :mumum:
Would rather see Maia than Sonnen personally.

OP, your link is busted.

There's not enough time for Sonnen to train for this fight, and I wonder if Maia has enough time as well. Heck, looking at the 185 rankings, all of the top five will probably be unable to take the fight. Maybe they'll get another 205er for him? All those top guys are busy too....

Shame i think Vitor is the best guy to really challenge Silva at 185.
I really wanna see Sonnen get his arse beat but i highly doubt he'd be ready to fight again soo soon.

Yeah this sucks. Even without the short notice, is there anyone at middleweight who would stand a chance? I mean, Sonnen will get worked, picked apart on the feet and even if he gets some takedowns Silva's guard is too good, he'll get out or submit him. Maia wouldn't even get that far, he'll just get picked apart on his feet.
He could fight Randy at 205 maybe?

Shame. Was looking forward to watching Belfort drop the ball as he usually does when it REALLY counts and watch his fanboys shut the **** up.
It would be awesome to see Demian Maia take this fight against Anderson Silva. Two top-level jiu jitsu fighters would fit nicely with UFC 112 as Abu Dhabi hosts world-class grappling. Could make for an entertaining fight - hopefully it won't end with an early first round knockout like Maia's fight with Nate Marquardt.

You are a fucking kook!!??? Where do you get this ****??? Anderson Silva has no holes other than the one he tells you you are doomed thru!!
Ha Ha Ha!! Seriously, you mean his wrestling? Glaring? His takedown defense is good but if you end up in the clich with him, joo got problims!!
I dont think Sonnen could damage Silva much in guard! His jits too good!
And the fact Sonnen didnt know what to do to Nate when he had his back, well that wont happen against Anderson.
*Silva untouched for another 2 rounds till stoppage* against whoever.
They better get sugar Shane Moseley with a club with some rusty nails (my old jnp defense) hammered thru the top to takedown the Silva!
As it is the Sonnen Silva will have to wait anyway.

Has Silva ever been on his back in a MMA fight? Has he ever faced a wrestler with similar takedowns abilities as Sonnen? I ask because I don't know.
If the answer to both of these questions is "no", then it might be an interesting fight if Sonnen can get Silva on his back. Sonnen's ability to posture up in Marquardt's guard looked pretty damn good for most of the fight in my opinion. However, I don't think Sonnen would have any room for error, standing or in Silva's guard.
This is a moot point right now anyway since it seems Sonnen will not be fighting Silva anytime soon.
hendo put him on his back
