I have been rolling 3-5 times a week since Oct. Lifting weights 3 days a week and running 2-3 days a week. So I am not in bad shape but WHEN are my ribs going to stop being sore all the time?

At first I thought it was just that my subcoastal muscles were not strong enough and I just needed some conditioning but here I am 4 months into it and still my ribs hurt ALOT.

thanks in advance for any help, thoughts

You're probably straining those muscles when you roll or bridge. I'm gonna go with stop being a spaz. You're probably wrenching your upper body and twisting, new person mistake.

what do you mean by 'ALOT', exactly?
if your ribs hurt when you cough, laugh and/or during normal everyday activities, there is a possibility that you might have cracked something. hopefully, it isn't and you are just bruised up a bit.

I'm just gonna say something crazy.

Your ribs hurting has nothing to do with working out, I just do BJJ, five days a week, 6 hours total, (per week mat time) and all the work out I get is by doing the 10 minute jog + warm ups, Scrimps, mat pulls, and occasionally rolling full speed.

I have no problems with ribs hurting, or losing, all through, I once got the skin on the tops of me feet shreded by a jacked guy rapidly bridge spazzing from under my mount.

Wait, how did you hurt you ribs, did someone fall on you or hurt your rib, or did they slowly start to hurt over time???

I would go get it checked out. The answer to bruised or broken ribs is to just let them heal, and the doctors can't usually help you, but if they're puncturing your lungs, it might be kind of inconvenient for the BJJ.

The guy asked a legitimate question. Your post makes me regret moving it out of the Basic Technique forum.

Why did you put it into the comedy forum then? If it was in the basic technique forum I would've suggested something along the lines of "take a little while off training, it sounds like they are bruised, if they don't improve, go to the docs cause something may be broken" but I found it in here where jokes abound, so I made a joke. Albeit not a funny one, or you wouldn't be crying.

It was a retarded comment considering the tone of the question/thread. It's not like the OP was asking a nutrider question.

To the OP. Sounds like you need to take some time off and heal. You probably AT LEAST bruised your ribs and they need some time. I would agree with getting that checked out to varify the condition though.

Here's a memo because you are too stupid to read the forum headers for yourself:

Reading comprehension. Try it sometime.

Nevertheless, it's an open forum. Post as your personal maturity level dictates.

Just to Clarify on my post for the OP,

I was basically Saying, take time off, and don't explosively push your self.

I would've thought it was better placed in the Physical Health forum, where it would have received the sombre advice you deem neccessary for the topic. But you obviously know best, seeing as you placed it in the GENERAL discussion and comedy forum. Wait, the word "comedy" is in the exact same quote box as your proof my reading comprehension failed when I stated that I made a joke in a comedy forum. Meaning you fail. Keep on crying, jnp, I like your tears.

Actually you're right. I tried to put it in the Physical forum first, but either the site is buggy or my computer is. As a test, I tried to move it to YMAS, which worked unfortunately.

Tears, huh? Good one. If you're ever in Texas, you drop me a line now, ya'hear?

Fair enough. I'll never be in Texas, nothing particularly inviting about the joint, now even more so. But you hit Sydney and I'd be happy to show you 'round.

I had pretty bad soreness in the rib area on my back on my right side for months. Every time someone would switch base in side control or I got swept hard onto that side, I would need to take a minute to let the pain settle. Every time I thought it was getting better I would get swept or something and wham, agony.

I am not 100% sure of what caused it, but I would guess it was from trying to buck and bridge at the wrong times and then still trying to force it. Also from not knowing ukemi well enough. I learned my lesson pretty soon after that but the pain lingered for a few months after I stopped being a spaz. Now it's fine and hasn't given me trouble for a while.
Now if I could just fix my bad knees somehow.
