1/21/2010 10:09pm,
I just found this video that contains an unaired UFC 12 prelim fight featuring ex-IFC fighter Justin Martin:

YouTube- Justin Martin UFC 12 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPuUduFkh9E)

Seeing this fight is interesting enough because I have some of Martin's other fights in my video collection. But what really piqued my interest is that the person who uploaded the video (Whom I think is either a relative of Martin or Martin himself) claims that it was the fastest submission in UFC history at 14 seconds.

Oleg Taktarov vs. Anthony Macias was clocked in at 9 seconds, but Macias is generally believed to have taken a dive in that fight. Other than that, does anybody know of any submissions in the UFC (Not MMA in general) that were clocked in faster than 14 seconds? I remember that Joe Charles' armbar win over Kevin Rosier was also 14 seconds, but I don't know of any other submission victories besides Macias vs. Taktarov that was faster than that.

The next fastest I can think of is Frank Mir v Tank Abbot, wherein Mir won via Toehold at 46 seconds.

I read on a Sherdog thread that Marcus Aurelio's 16 second submission victory in UFC Fight Night 13 is supposed to be the quickest, having tied with Frank Shamrock's win over Kevin Jackson. There just might be something to the video poster's claim.

His win over Pete Williams was 46 seconds as well.

Anyways, I went over the wikipedia listings of event results and in so far as they are reliable, these are the fastest legitimate submissions.

Pat Smith over Rhodes in 45 seconds.

Joe Stevenson over Melvin Guillard in 27s

Roman Mitichyan over Dorian Price in 23s

Dennis Hallman over Matt Hughes in 21s.

Don Frye over Mark hall in 20s.

Marcus Aurelio over Ryan Roberts in 16s

Frank Shamrock over Kevin Jackson in 16s.

And tied with Justin Martin's record is Joe Charles over Kevin Rosier in 14 seconds.

I'd say if Macias took a dive, then then this guy is tied with Joe Charles. Nice find!

EDIT: Argh. thatrugbyguy beat me to the punch while I was Googling it. Hah.

The official times aren't always useful because sometimes they don't stop the clock on the tap. I was always under the impression that Frank shamrock's armbar over Kevin Jackson was the official record, but Jackson didn't even tap and Big john stepped in early.

That could be true. Duane Ludwig apparently holds the unofficial record for fastest knockout in the UFC at 5 seconds, but the timekeeper's clock ran it at 11 seconds.

Didn't Frank Dux have the faster knock out ever in 0.22 seconds? ;)

We're talking about actual documented fights. You know, ones that really happened.

Heath Herring FTW with NEGATIVE 36 seconds.

Which brings another technicality to mind.

Royce Gracie vs Harold Howard: Howard by Technical Submission 0:00 of Round 1.

I'm sure it was Don Frye vs some 400lb guy. The UFC was in Puerto Rico and the theme as I recall of this UFC was 'David vs Goliath'.
