do you actually train any grappling in the first place or are you learning off youtube videos with your mates?
well im trying to learn everything I can from my friends but none of us do BJJ or JJJ(because its not available) or judo(because the quality of the instructor is dismal) so i thought i'd ask the good people of this forum.
I try to incorporate everything i know into my fighting style and if i know what techniques my opponent knows that gives me an advantage
thanks to everyone who posted here bar 1point2 who trolled as always

99.9% of people who try to teach themselves from home end up doing pretty badly. you're probably wasting your time. what's so bad about this judo coach?
where do you live? there might be someone here who can recommend a school nearby.

This is beyond a waste of time, this is counter-productive. The longer you do this, the more misconceptions and bad habits you'll pick up.

Translation: I'm trying to "learn" from people from whom I won't likely learn anything.

If you have "learned" via the above "method", what exactly do you, um, know? What, "learning" by this "method" are you going to "know" about what techniques your (???) opponent "knows"?
Oh wait...Hesperus wrote the same thing--but more efficiently.
My bad. Carry on...

If you use the technique in the first picture and the guy you are trying to bar does the basic defense of grabbing his own wrist, you cannot use your right foot to pry it loose by pushing the defenders left arm loose. I therefore recommend the second version.

One, I hate doing that, to break the arm loose.
Two, the second armbar, in my experience, tends to come from speed, rather then technique. Ie, you've got Knee On Belly, the dude sticks his arm out, you quickly pivot to the arm. The first one seems to be more, "ok, he sees it coming"
It's my weakest submission because I seem to fall on my back when I'm going for it and at that point I'm really far from their shoulder.
Explore the concepts of 'sitting' instead of 'falling'/'falling back'

The far side arm bar can be done quite slowly from knee on belly, as long as you control the head, and properly hang your opponent by his arm, creating a kind of kimura with your neck/shoulder on the wrist, and the inside of your forearm prying his elbow toward you.
Work on your far side arm bars. It's the speed that's getting you off the shoulder.

This is the only armbar that I've gotten off in class, and for the reason that Gabe said. It's all about scooping that far arm and lifting, so the shoulder and arm are off the ground supporting their body weight. Makes it easier to transition around the body.

Really Tim? The only one? I think I've seen you get arm bars from back and from cross body arm drags.
Basically, you're a god damn liar. Now, onto business:
When does Operation Flashpoint come out? I'm gonna have to dump about half my life savings on video games in the next six months. Why can't they space this **** out?
I did a knee slide pass last night, went to knee on belly, and took the near arm.
He took his other arm and put it underneath the leg that was over his face. I switched the angle and had both legs over his body. Then I broke his grip using the "gene lebell" method, or at least what I was told was the gene lebell method. He tappity tap tapped.
He was a 2 stripe blue :) yes, I know thats belt hunting, But I have something to "prove". Well, not really.

don't be such a poof. it's fine to do that, be pleased with yourself.
at the same time, it's nothing to brag about. today in MMA training my partner did a short combo, then shot in and took a single leg as i was backing up. as he did so i executed a flying omoplata which converted to a triangle as we hit the ground. got the tap about 2 seconds later.
but you don't see ME bragging, do you?
I don't brag about tapping my mentor who got his black belt a few months ago.
Oh my god, I tapped a black belt. Nevermind the fact that I've been training with him for eight years, or that he was probably letting me work. I swear that had nothing to do with it.
