I think alot of people have never thought about this but do you know why you want to do martial art? are your ambitions and goals clear for you?
What makes you go back to training 2 or more times each week even though you will experience bruises and general hardship?
What do you get out of your efforts?

This is a low content thread but what else is there to add?
I am not out to air my own thoughts about the subject. It is more about discussing different agendas and perhaps getting to know ourselves abit better.

I like to choke people and not get arrested afterwards.

self defense and fitness.

but mainly fun. its just really fun. i dont know why. probably has something to do with the fact that i'm generally pretty awful at other kinds of sports

What do get I out of BJJ?

1. adrenaline
2. scratching my irrational need to constantly challenge myself
3. that "holy crap, did i just do that?" when you pull off somwthing awesome
4. comeraderie with training partners
5. it keeps me out of bars
6. it motivates my to take care of health
7. stress relief
8. the pain, the struggle, the blood, it just plain makes me feel alive
9. its the most fun/demanding/rewarding game i've played

i'll prolly think of some others too.

The bruises, sweat, blood...just a small factor of what I get to enjoy

Martial Arts makes me feel good after a nice hard training time, I feel at peace
I love the adrenalin when fighting. I think its beatifull...and I have been loving fighting since I was born just beating up kids in preschool and nursery
(Im now in Highschool and dont beat up random kids, cause I have more sense :)!)
I do it for more reasons as well, getting in shape, descipline, its one of my main goals, and as fun, and my race is heavily stereotyped so when I become pro I get to represent them...

I cant explain it really its just something I want to do...

I could name alot other stuff if I botherd to type more :)!

This is kind of like what I feel too. I can rationalize it. I can say that I need to keep in shape or that it is fun but I know that there is some other reason. I just don't feel like a complete human being if I don't train.

I occasionally have physical confrontations. I prefer winning.

I also noticed I become more social after training

You are a law enforcement officer. It is kind of a part of your job.
Why do you want to be a law enforcement officer?

My job requires that I sit in front of a computer 9 hours a day. If I didn't have some kind of physical outlet I would go mental

Having fun, getting less fat, and learning how to **** someone's **** up* in a hypothetical situation. Plus, bruises are fucking awesome. Maybe eventually if I try really, really hard I could compete.

*Horse stance, kiai, chamber punch. Do Pinan Shodan in celebration of victory.

I can kick people. I like kicking people. It makes me feel so much better about myself after I kick people. Then I get choked or tapped, and I don't feel so good anymore.

I kick people and I feel better. The vicious cycle continues. :-)

Because whether or not I train, the day will pass and my body and mind will adjust accordingly.
