That's what I mean. I can understand those rules for a grappling tournament. Not for a pankration tournament.
Sirc started out bitching about the grappling rules.

Exactly. Just look at the thread title.

I agree with Upa about stressing position, but I see sirc's point - I was PAYING a purple belt to teach me leg locks at one point, so I would be dismantling my own sense of self to concede he wasn't experienced enough to do them in a comp.

I just think that's really silly. I mean seriously? This is a judo tournament without the 10 second newaza rule or ippon. no straight ankle locks? Nothing? Not until purple belt and above? Fucking lame.

Uh huh, this is a BJJ tournament with strikes. The rules for the grappling tournament and the pankration tournament are exactly the same, except i can heel kick people in the balls in the pankration tournament.
You're only disagreeing with me because of your blind loyalty to BJJ, also you just can't agree with me. This is **** because it's not a "pankration tournament" when it's really "Pretend Combat BJJ."
Why is that so hard to swallow?

Whoever is disagreeing with Sirc at this point is just being silly. How you feel about him doesn't make the rules any less ridiculous.
There, I cheered you now. Happy?

Hey guys what if we did a pankration tournament that wouldn't allow a closed guard or chokes.
Let that one settle in.

Oh yeah, today I went to weigh myself in.
I spent the week dropping weight. I weighed myself at home, at my GF's house and even at my doctor's scale all of which I was on target.
I went to the weigh-ins today and they were using an electronic scale.... which was heavy by about 5lbs. They didn't bother to calibrate it. Also this is how they checked for ringworm and staph:
"Hey have you had ringworm or staph recently?"
"No."
"Ok."
When I go tomorrow, if there isn't an EMT or any medical person on site, I'm just gonna leave.

No, because you're still a cheerleader. You're one step above an apologist which puts you just one step below a bowl full of Alan Greenspan's pubes.

You should reread the rules. Straight leg locks and toe holds are allowed at blue belt and up. Like I said, since a blue belt is relatively easy to get I really don't see the problem. ****, spend <18 months training 4 days a week at a good school and you'll have a blue. I really don't see a big problem with prohibiting leg locks to beginners. I may not wholly agree but it is hardly an overly egregious thing.

Obviously you can't be talking about modern blue belts.

Now a days there are 2 year purple belts at respectable teams... Gotta get em to sign that contract when it re-ups.

I always enter a real division and avoid the nonsense rules.

We're talking about this tournament, not TKD.

When I was on the west coast I took one look at grappling x, laughed and decided I was better off coaching that day. The only guys worth fighting were the marines and they were sandbagging too hard. Plus, the rules were weird and their scheduling blew. So no grappling X for me.
