I'd like to see information about Luftwaffe members not being allowed to be NSDAP members after 1933... Other army parts were allowed? On what ground?

That might help you determine yourself if it is. Luftwaffe daggers are currently running on the open market (as far as I've seen so far) for 500 -1500 dollars depending on the condition. Yours appears to have an ivory handle which means it probably belonged to a higher status officer as such things were optional and out of pocket AFAIK.

Some sites can appraise the weapon for a nominal fee, typically 25 - 50 bucks, though I don't know how accurate they can be from pictures. I would still advise finding a local expert to ensure it's not a post-war replica.

EDIT: Would you be able to provide a higher detail image of the cross on the blade just above the date? I've not seen that before. Also, the writing appears to say "Salingen" with a single line through the first letter. Am I reading that correctly?

Due to the constitution of the Weimar Republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weimar_Republic) no soldier of the Reichswehr was either allowed to become a member of a political party or to vote in an election because there was a strict separation between politics and the armed forces. The same applied later to the Wehrmacht. Most of its leadership was politically conservative but after Adolf Hitler gained power he had promised to rebuild Germany's military strength and thus some officers became invigorated towards the National Socialist movement. In addition, many soldiers had previously been in the Hitler Youth and Reichsarbeitsdienst and had thus been subjected to intensive Nazi indoctrination; as a result, many newly-commissioned officers were committed Nazis. In general, the Luftwaffe was heavily Nazi-influenced

Get it appraised by a professional appraiser. Authenticate first. Otherwise any buyer, even if they believe it to be genuine will pay a small percentage of actual value. Then they will get it appraised and sell it for retail.

Take the small amount of time (hours maybe) to get the extra money.
