one for the Judoka or BJJers (BJJers? is that the term?)
OK ,so your walking through town when despite your confident demeanor and basic common sense approach to avoiding trouble, trouble has found you.
In a do or die situation, what Judo throw or BJJ technique would you use to get out of the situation as quickly as possible? and how do you adapt the common throws now you don't have a gi to grip?
Am I being attacked by a shirtless man?

Seriously its retarded to ask such questions you can't plan on walking around with a hip toss loaded and ready to go. You will simply react to the situation if it ever happens to you. So if your training is good your reaction will be good if your training sucks you will suck.
Don't believe the hype boys and girls we do not live in a third world country where everyone is looking to get you. Feeding the fears of everyday people is the way others hold power over others. This bullshit that the world is a dangerous knife wielding blood thirsty place is a farce. Are they bad people in the world? Yes. Take a look at this from the FBI http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/data/table_01.html. (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/data/table_01.html)
The stats are not that horrible when you consider that 467 violent crimes happen per 100,000 people. While I would not want it to happen to anyone I can tel you the chance of it happening to you in the 'burbs is even lower than that. Considering if you do live in a high crime area the you are not worried about getting a punch thrown at you. Add to the fact that if you can afford to pay for martial arts classes you more than likely don't live in a bad place.
RBSD folk and the like sicken me. They are just as bad as organized religion. Scare people in to doing what they want you to do.
Train for the sake of training. Use martial arts for what they are intended purpose, self improvement. If by chance you ever need it to defend yourself let's hope you trained properly.

1st, as long as the guy is wearing clothing, you can get some kind of gi grip on there most of the time.
2nd, since I suck with gi grips anyway, over-under to osoto gari has always been my go-to move against people who don't grapple.

With maybe one or two exceptions you'd use your tokui waza.

hopefully I'm not being attacked by a shirtless man, but yeah if that was to happen, what would you do if while exiting your local pool a man wearing nothing but speedos demands you hand over your locker key? Don't give me that look, it could happen!!

OK I didn't mean to ape RBSD threads I'm not wandering around like a paranoid, nervous wreck eying up everyone I meet as a pottential asailant/killer/mugger etc. I'm training 3 times a week in Judo purely for the physical conditioning and joy of learning something new, I like to think I'm doing it for the right reason.
I was just wondering out loud what throw people would reach for in a time of (however unlikely) need.

At a time like this, we need to look at what one of the greatest Judoka would have done. WWKD?
Ever since I was in junior high, I have been called Master Groin Squeezer, and had absolute confidence in this technique.
I'll let that speak for itself.

Since a Glock is a pistol, and therefore has a pistol grip, I don't think you needed to specify that. Unless you're talking about a fore grip on the rail. In that case, you carry your Glock in an odd fashion...

if he is wearing speedos and just came from a pool he probably has shrinky dink. I would point and laugh at his small shrunken package thus shaming and embarrasing him into running away.
I'd pull De La Riva guard and work to take his back, at which point I'd to an inverted triangle? Or is it a reverse triangle? I dunno, a triangle off this back.

moves like this are the reason I look on BJJ with awe, its like human origami, folding suckers up then choking them out. Thanks for the BJJ perspective
Fortunately I get to carry a gun. I'm also 6'3" and 235lbs. I'm usually pissed off too, for one reason or another. I actually don't get bothered that much. I'd probably go with a punch in the mouth for starters.
