Hello everybody. About a year ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right hip and was told by my doctor to stop doing any martial arts that would stress my hip. I'm looking for suggestions from people with a similar problem as to what might be a good art to study. I tried a bjj class and had a great time but afterward my hip hurt for two days and I'm afraid of doing permanent damage. The injury that caused the arthritis occurred during tae kwon do. I have an appointment next week with another doctor but I am hoping to get some ideas from people that have martial arts experience. I live in the Baltimore, MD area. Thank you.

Boxing would be the best bet I would think.

Joint hip "resurfacing" is the hotest thing out there and everyone I know who has gotten it can do anything they want short of the extreme like marathons and squating a truck. Look for a doctor who does that surgery and will also tell what you can do to keep training and put the surgery off as long as possible.

The comments from the USA on the NHS have raised a few eyebrows in the UK.

The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing was developed by an NHS surgeon and it took the FDA a further 10 years before approving it, primarily because of the fact it was a more expensive procedure.

My first post and I bring politics into it.
