At Primal Fitness, Judo is taught by two multi-decade Judoka, Terrance and Leah. The facility is a two-level converted firehouse. On the bottom floor they teach parkour and crossfit. Not exactly a giant, shiny Bally's but it has the Victorian charm of a lot of old Washington DC buildings. The Judo is three times a week, on the second floor. The training facility itself is exactly as big as an olympic sized tatami, which is more than big enough for the small classes offered there. Many of the students are competitors.

Class is usually between three and five students and the two instructors, more if it's time for one of Terrance's semi-regular barbeques. Class is generally three-fifths standing Judo, two fifths groundwork. That's Judo-rules groundwork (no leglocks, 25 second pin rule) but with more of a BJJ influence since i'm there. Class usually ends with sparring, either standing, groundwork or competition rules randori.

The weapons instruction rating is because I once saw Terrance carrying a wooden sword but that's not something that's regularly taught.

As a bonus, membership also gives a discount to Primal's fitness and Parkour classes and also the begginer's BJJ class I teach in Alexandria.

If I ever do that relocation to VA, I'm there. Sounds great. Is there still a pole?

No, I think this was built before firehouses had poles.
