Can anybody suggest a nifty way of getting out of an arm bar after it has been 'locked on?' (other than biting/pinching).

biting and pinching will not get you out of an armbar.

Against a newb you can sometimes roll the direction they are going backwards. Anybody with a clue will just roll with you and apply it upside down.

There is a reason it's called a submission.

Is the armbar applied standing or on the ground ?

Sorry Kempocos I should have been more clear - I am assuming both parties are on the ground.... and the opponent is ignoring your tap-out!

1. channel mystical chi.
2. shoot fire out of fingertips, killing opponent.
3. meditate on the meaning of life high in the mountains of tibet.
seriously though, it depends on exactly how your opponent is applying the lock.. you might be able to reach around with your other arm and rake at the crotch, depdning on exact positions. i've never had to worry much about getting out of armbars using a technique. i just generally keep fighting... i'm double jointed, so i don't feel armbars until my elbow is nearly dislocated, so i can keep beating the hell out of my opponents legs and essentially just yanking away. that wouldn't work on the street, of course, but it's just the way i tend to respond.

Asking how to get out an arm bar after it is locked in is like asking how to block a punch after it has hit your face.

so the answer is to use your awesome tai-chi powah to rewind time like in the prince of persia?

NO train more and become a better fighter.
If someone is not noticing/respecting your tap, then--provided that they haven't actually snapped your limb off--you will need to talk to them after you are done. If they are unable or unwilling to be more careful with you, then do not roll with them.
Auto- It really depends on what type of armbar you are talking about.

twist ur wrist so the angle of which ur elbow would hyperextend changes, then powerbomb.

I've thought of biting a chunk out of someone's leg if they put it over your face, but it's not going to happen. If it's locked, roll towards them for all you're worth to get your arm off the fulcrum. If you have godly rotator cuffs you can try twisting onto the side of your elbow, but if it's locked the only thing that can really save you is bicep and pectoral strength.
