What could be more "ultimate" than "fighting" with someone who's trying to put you in a casket just for doing your job?

Each and every day, regular citizens put their lives on the line to keep the streets safe and maintain the order a civilized society requires to function. These individuals demand the most effective forms of training, and unfortunately, have to use it a lot more often than many of them would prefer.

And what makes it even more difficult for these officers are the regulations that restrict their options for engaging violent suspects, often to a very limited degree. Restrictions, in many cases, which are imposed by politicians who have little practical knowledge of how to apply force. We won't argue against limitations on police force, but rather, the intent is to point out that they add another challenge officers have to face in carrying out their duties and necessitate maximum efficiency.

Over the years there have been hundreds of systems, techniques, and styles sold-in to law enforcement agencies, many of which have been pure garbage. So in the course of this month, let's shine a light on both those awful ones, and conversely, the good ones that actually help these guys and gals subdue crackheads, drunk rednecks, and the rest of society's trash.

Also, if you're an LEO we're going to give you your props by offering a 25% discount for April on Supporting Memberships. PM me using your forums account for details.

That is the thing that gets discussed the most in the locker room. It eats me up every time I have to go to court and answer some pincle neck lawyer who has never been spit on, swung at, or had to physically help a brother that could be seriously hurt.

Thanks for the recognition of service. We don't get that very much.

No problem, although I should blame you fuckers for the Reality TV phenomenon since it all started with the COPS show.

Bastards.

So many cops are scumbags that they give the upright police a bad name.

Nice write up Phrost, thanks for the reconition!!

As far as crappy techniques/training shoved at LEO's, I can attest to that!! While employed as a corrections officer for the state I was required to train in their mandatory Akido program for self-defense.

They said Akido was chosen for its non-violent effectiveness!! LOL Most of my one on one uses of force were RNC's followed by handcuffing....thank the Gods of Jiu-jitsu/Judo!!

In South Jersey the police academy taught us Aikido. The Academy was 6 months and the defensive tactics was only 1 week. It was 4 days of Aikido and 1 day of classroom theroy and that was it. Later they had a street survival seminar in which we had 2 days (16 paid work hours) of BJJ for LEO. That class was awesome. That was not included in original academy, it was extra training idividual departments had to pay for if they wanted to send people to the seminar.

What we were taught in the Corrections Academy in New England was basic Aikido type stuff and some other retarted moves. I was told that if we used anything else other than what was taught in the Academy we would be subject to lawsuit. I am so glad I had my own martial arts training before I stepped into that crazy career.

I agree with the above poster. The basic Aikidoish stuff from the Academy was never used in any of my use of forces in the prison system nor on the street. I was never sued.

I just want to take this time to ask every one to remember the sacrifice my fellow brothers in blue in pittsburg paid, responding to a Domestic violence call. Becareful out on patrol, and use good tactics my fellow officers.

i live in one of the safest neighborhoods in st. louis county. big part of that has to do with the outstanding police force we have here. only problem is they do their job TO well. they deter crime so well that they have made it to where they have nothign to do but write traffic violations all day. in a way, it feels good to live in a place where you cant say "don't you have rapists, murderers, and drug dealers to go arrest?" while your getting a ticket.

good pick on making it LEO month. my experience has been (except for two instances) that if you act like a decent person, and don't play amateur lawyer on the side of the road, cops will treat you with respect.

Yay, it's L.E.O. Sucks Month!

YouTube - Rodney King (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROn_9302UHg)

But seriously, I'm glad that when I went to a seminar on business and careers, a local police officer who talked to us remarked that they trained him in some kickboxing.

I train with a couple awesome cops BJJ and MMA make for some bad ass LEOs. I'm glad so many of you guys go out of your way to get some more reasonable training. It makes everyone involved a lot safer.

OT: Wow, I forgot just how over the top the Rodney King video was.

Trust me, there are a thousand videos out there of the exact opposite that no one ever sees. It's all good though. Every LEO knows they are on video all the time. If we f-up, we know what it coming.

IME, people that "hate cops" tend to be people that routinely break the law. Not in all cases, of course, but in all the cases I've come across.
