A member of the Bartitsu Society has just created a PDF of Edmund Price's "Science of Self Defence" (1867). It's a concise manual of basic bare-knuckle boxing, including some of the standing grappling that was part of pugilism back in the day and a bit of physical culture advice - http://38.108.68.34/~tudzacom/The_Science_of_Self_Defence.pdf
Price was an interesting guy, a former prize-fighter who had great success later in life as a lawyer. There's a 1907 New York Times obituary for him, including reminiscences about some of his street-fighting escapades, at http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=990DE5DA1331E733A25752C0A9649C94 6697D6CF
