And if anyone's interested in Britain's political-historical obsession with Afghanistan and central Asia, I'd recommend books by Peter Hopkirk. I've read a couple, and they're very accessible and extremely illuminating.

I have told Dave I would send him a care package when he's deployed.

For those who've never been in the military, receiving mail alone, and especially goodies, is a high point beyond description. It is a piece of the "real world" back home.

Having done this for US military personnel, the shipping fee is minimal.

It is another matter sending to a (here it is a APO/FPO address) foreign country as they/I do not get the benefits of regular mailing price to a US command.
