1/17/2004 4:05am,
Got a message from Dibble that she didn't have any heartburn about my trying to get something going...
That having been said, I've been as busy as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest the past two weeks at work... I have gone from supervising 2 - 3 people to supervising 9 - 10, and the workload has done nothing but increase.
That having been said, the worst of it is over, and things are starting to fall into a groove. This means I should have some time this week to make some phone calls, get some info.
I'm going to look into the same place as last time because:
a) No worrisome legal issues to resolve (i.e. waivers of liability);
b) No worrisome fees (if everybody pays a few dollars, we play pretty much as long as we like);
c) Given the locations of all involved (from Portland all the way to B.C.), it is pretty centrally located.
So.
I will look into this, and will aim at the weekend of 7 February (unless everyone chimes in with a different date).
0900 - 1430ish shall be the time, and the time shall be 0900 - 1430ish.
Topics for discussion, presentation and practice TBD (suggestions are welcome).
This doesn't mean, however, that the always sunny Dibble is off the hook for the Bellingham get together... Nor does that mean that our plans for a Vancouver event are off either.
In point of fact, I'd like to see both events happen before the summer... I'm planning on coming up to Vancouver in March (Jon Funk is holding his annual tournament, and I'm thinking about returning to competition just for the grins of it), and am always willing and able to schedule a road trip up north...
So... Suggestions for 7 February, Lakewood area, are welcome and solicited. I look forward to further discussion.

Thought I would post more info for anyone else interested in that tournament. My first time to it was in 2003 and know that it is a fun time with varied divisions. I look forward to getting knocked around in 2004.

Well, right now getting through the borders is a bitch for us up north.
I'm up for anything here in Vancity. I know JKDChick and Shironinja are up here. Anyone else want to do something on this side of the border, I'm in.
6 inches of snow forecasted. It's a cold bitch up here. I really, really, really, miss Los Angeles.
If I can get some time off duty, I'm in.

1/25/2004 7:28pm,
So, we've got lots of folks interested, but nobody is ponying up with dates they would be free...
Here's the deal.
I'm going to make tentative arrangements for 7 Feb and 21 Feb. I need to hear from any/all of you not later than this Tuesday (27 Jan) as to what date is best for you.
I want to accomodate everyone as best as possible, but without your input all I'm doing is spinning my wheels.
Feel free to email me at wolfden68@hotmail.com or post here. Either way I'll get the info...
Either one works for me, really. I would be very interested to learn some grappling techniques, and I'm not opposed to light sparring, but probably won't be too involved in any full speed/contact fighting as I don't want injuries interrupting my training for the Montreal tournament in March.
What all sorts of activities will we be planning? Something along those lines?

Count me in too if it is in the morning. Yuna and I have Kyokushin practice for the tourney in Montreal from 3-5pm that day in Seattle. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be up for too much contact either (call me a wuss) for the same reason stated above. Anyway though, I look forward to it.

Last time there wasn't all that much contact. Everyone played pretty nice. J-Kid did some rolling with some of the folks that came with me (not Bullshido members though), and JKDChick smacked me around a little (but nowhere near hard enough). Dibble did some sensitivity drills with me, but she was nice and didn't maim me...
No worries.
I'll start working on the 21st, since the 7th is kind of just around the corner.

So, where exactly would we be throwin' down?

1/27/2004 11:25am,
I am going to contact Lakewood Martial Arts, a school located just down the way (about 3 miles or so?) from exit 125 on I-5.
Fairly easy to get to, good set up, good price (we paid $100 for the use of the place from 0800 - 1430 last time), nice people to deal with.
As a side note, last time we had an after-Throwdown meal at Denny's (a restaurant I will only recommend if you are in Japan - their food is actually edible there!). While the company was outstanding, there is better comida to be had elsewhere...
There is China King buffet down the street (cheap, not the best looking place, but its clean and the food is good), George's Greek Food right on the corner (they have HUGE gyros, and a dinner plate to die for!), an Indian restaurant around the corner has a great lunch buffet (it isn't really huge, but their curry is awesome) but I'm not too sure about dinner...
The point is, there are all sorts of restaurants to choose from right in that area. We could choose someplace other than Denny's next time around (*hint, hint*).
Ideas? Suggestions?
It looks like this one will shape up nicely... I will have between 2 and 5 people with me (from our Yiliquan group - the Throwdown will be their "official place of training" that day), a Judoka (he was there last time), then what seems to be (possibly) 5 to 7 people from here... Not too bad!
I'll let you know what I hear from the school this week...

1/27/2004 2:35pm,
Don't suppose there's away I could convince you guys to choose a weekend that isn't the 21st? My girlfriend and I celebrate V-day the weekend afterwards 'cause you can find really nice beach cabins for cheap the weekend afterwards. If not, that's cool. Beyond that, count me in. I'll have to figure out how to get to Tacoma by bus from Seattle, but no big deal.
Best regards.

1/27/2004 4:26pm,
Now this is what I have been on about...
I need folks to chime in and say whether the dates work or don't work for them...
So far, one vote for something other than the 21st (which would likely then be the 29th, since the rest of the planet does V-day on the 14th).
No votes for anything else.
Let me know so I can finalize this deal...

1/27/2004 11:48pm,
Actually, the 21st works better for me.
21st for me, otherwise getting a bit too close to Montreal and there'll be heavier training.
Matt Stone
1/28/2004 12:18am,
The 21st it is... We'll be scheduling more Throwdowns in the future, so don't be overly concerned if you miss this one.
I will call tomorrow afternoon.
21 Feb 04, 0800 - 1500, Lakewood Martial Arts school, Lakewood, WA.
Attendees?
So far Anthony, Fragbot, Gajus, Yuna, JKDChick, Dibble, me, Rising Phoenix, Shironinja, and some folks I know are in.
Anybody have an idea on what they would like to do this time around?
