Do you think they really make that much out of merchandising? I read this was about a videogame on sherdog. Unless the ufc actually hire a bunch of programmers and release the game themselves I can't see them making that much off it.

Probably that the economy is going into the shitter, so it's time to reduce headcount. They could do away with Tuf. (except for the first two episodes of coarse)

On a positive note, they're keeping Jorge Gurgel...

this is ridiculous. this is now two top contenders that the UFC has cut (if you don't count fihlo) for no good reason. how can they justify this when they have people like houston alexander on the roster. I have never said that the UFC was good for the sport, but I honestly never thought they would do something so blatantly bad for the sport. They have always said its about having the best competition under one banner, and then they go and bull crap like this. I am seriously losing faith in them right now. At least they "tried" to keep arlovski and silvia, but cutting some of the top guys in their wieght classes, thats just bullshit

what kind of compensation was the UFC offering for lifetime rights?

This is a fight between the UFC and the management company of the AKA fighters.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is resolved in a weak or two.

As far as licensing goes I don't think the deals are any different than deals with Baseball teams or anything else.

As long as the fighters are getting a cut and a residule then there shouldn't be a problem

Prediction: "Fuckers didn't wanna fucking play by our fucking rules. You wanna fucking fight for the fucking big boys, you play by our fucking rules. 'Cause we're the only big fucking boys out there. Affliction is out of fucking business before fucking 2009."

But probably with more profanity.

Surprisingly accurate...

In an interview with Yahoo Sports on Wednesday, White said the UFC would no longer do business with the American Kickboxing Academy, Fitch’s San Jose-based fight team.

“We’re looking for guys who want to work with us and not against us, and frankly I’m just so [expletive] sick of this [expletive] it’s not even funny,” White told Yahoo Sports. “Affliction is still out there trying to build its company. Let [Fitch] go work with them. Let him see what he thinks of those [expletives]. [Expletive] him. These guys aren’t partners with us. [Expletive] them. All of them, every last [expletive] one of them.”

No longer doing business with an entire fight camp. Wow.

Every single fucking time I start to think how the UFC and Dana White in particular aren't so bad, this type of **** happens. Reading just the headline I was expecting it to be about the economy, but Dana's rage-filled rant? That ain't economics. GOD I miss Pride right now. Save us, DREAM!

Fitch makes some pretty good points. I predict Dana will ignore all of them. I understand the UFC cutting Filho because I've never seen such a crappy fighter (in his last fight). This recent cut is a huge disappointment though. I hope other athletes don't get fooled and allow other MMA organizations to grow.

Problem is, with the distinct lack of other high paying orginizations there probably won't be a shortage of up and coming fighters who will view this as vaccum they can fill in the UFC or a reason to not train with AKA. As much as I'm hoping Strikeforce and Affliction make it and create more competition here in the states, if you ask the vast majority of people outside the martial arts world about anything related to MMA they immediately associate it with the UFC. That gives Dana a lot of leverage on anyone trying to make a living off their fighting.

Until another org comes up with a regular show that gets exposure like TUF does on Spike, the UFC can do almost anything it wants to the fighters.

That's pretty disgusting, I'm suprised only these guys were dropped.

Does anyone know how much dream pays in comparison?

My search-fu in that regard came up empty; save for some bonuses listed on Wikipedia, but there wasn't an external source listed for them.

Hopefully others with greater resources than I have allowed on a DoD network can find out more.
