I kinda wonder how the WMA folks deal with this using oak or ash wasters.
Still looking for video. It's essentially a metal cross wrapped in foam and duct tape.

Yeah, i know. I just remembered this thread the other day.
Other progress in power development
The mini-sledges are doing GREAT. My shoulder girdle is wicked-flexible, and my grip strength is getting better. So now, I'm heading back into more of a power cycle.
I've been thinking about medicine ball slams, but I'm encountering a problem....you can only do one side of the ROM explosively, so I feel like there's some imbalance there with the antagonist motions. i wish I had somewhere to slam the tires, but I don't always have time to go back to CTC while it's still open to do that.
So the basic idea is to do a power circuit with medicine ball slams and kettlebell snatches, which work the opposite movement explosively. I'm thinking warm up with axe choppers with the ball and kettlebell swings.
As usual, I thread necro to keep this **** organized.

Hey, sorry to jump in this thread but I began doing PTK in January and I'm beginning to get serious about it. How often do you recommend training and what duration? As I am still so new to this what should I focus on?

Attribute-wise or technique-wise?

What material are you currently working on? Is there anything you would describe as problem areas for you?
Also where/who do you train with?
I'm very early stages still, working on my 12 strikes and my footwork. I train in New Jersey.

high reps of the footwork, preferably integrated with slow strikes.
Sidesteps, with and without the strikes.
Power strikes, while hitting something like a tire.
Are you on to the Four Walls/Umbrellas?

yeah I learned those blocks. my footwork and punyo follow through needs a lot of work, I tend to break the strikes instead of letting them flow. would you recommend training at home with a blade to emphasize accuracy?

Let's see, control drills.
Stand facing a wall, kind of far out, and then strike your ones and twos. Slowly walk toward the wall, striking your fluid strikes as you use the sidestep. At the closest, you'll be close enough to touch the wall with your elbow. DON'T HIT the WALL. This will work on controlling the size of your arc during fluid strikes, and will force you to sidestep(you won't have any room if you don't).
Place the stick out at full extension in front of you, as if you had just struck an opponent with a fluid strike. From this position, pull the weapon fluidly to your hip as fast as you can, while pulling your hip back. Repeat on the other side.

sounds good, thanks for that. I have been told by my teacher and in turn his that I tend to go into boxing stance when drilling my strikes, completely counter productive. Unfortunately I have no cam. In lieu if a tire for power strikes, a heavy bag will do, no? Thanks for your help.

If you have a subscription to bushido dvd(or can get one), I reccomended renting the Dog Brothers series one tapes. Eric's got great power form, and they have a whole dvd just on that.
