...boxing has some good aspects but most of it does not work in a real fight
And you say this based on what, dear toxin?

Too hard to eye-gouge with those big gloves on.

I dunno... there's chance of ending up in a clinch of some kind. The hockey collar-grab and the old school bully headlock, most likely. I think a decent boxer could bob and weave without any problems, though.

Boxing's defense gets a lot of **** for some reason. Somebody on another forum I went to, long ago, believed that not even blocking worked on the streetz

sorry Moonwatcher but i am at a loss too what San Shou is

but i did TKD untill i opened my eyes and moved on

chinese kickboxing, our tournaments allow throws. So basically its like mma without any brazillian jiu jitsu ness.

Any sword art where they use those bendable blades that goes swosh-swoshi-wosh at the slightest flick of the wrist. They would've been much better of if they didn't pretend that they used swords, but admitted that they are using metal spanking straps.
You mean Modern Wushu Daos (the bendy broadswords made to make that sound for points in competition) aren't spanking straps? :5ziplip: Why didn't anyone tell me this? They are the ultimate paddles.

Boxers (not all but the ones i have seen and faced) are useless once you get in close, them on the ground or if you start fighting dirty (sucker punches, low blows, eye pokes and the like) i have seen SOME good boxers but most can't take what they know works in a ring and apply it for the street

to each his own I suppose, but mma comprimises striking, clinch/throws, and grappling. San shou rules allow for two of the three so I think my comparison is fair. Plus, what credibility do you have? Have you ever competed in both an mma and a san shou match? I'm not trolling I'm just curious.

That isn't my opinion, that's the truth.

If you think that mma = sanshou + brazilian jiujitsu you're just wrong. Again, not my opinion, it's a fact.

edit: and to answer your question I have not competed in sanshou but I did train wush when I was in high school. I've had one mma fight and if I had gone into it thinking it was sanshou + jiujitsu I would have lost.

I don't think mma = san shou + brazillian jiu jitsu. I said that san shou is like mma minus the Brazilian jiu jitsu aspect, perhaps my definition is imprecise but I stand by it. Go compete in some tournaments, and spar using san shou rules you'll understand what I mean. I did wushu in high school as well...and its completely different than san shou, the wushu routines are good for conditioning and maybe getting the basics. I`m not a professional fighter I`ve help my friends prepare for competition as a sparring partner at best. But to be frank one mma match, and san shou videos on youtube don`t make you an expert regarding the styles.

I don't know about your experiences, but most boxers have a tremendous advantage compared to many (maybe most) traditional MA students - regular experience with full power contact and movement.

They know what it feels like to hit and get hit and learn to avoid/deal damage.

Yeah, boxing doesn't have kicks or throws or groundfighting, but unless you're really good or lucky, a decent boxer can punch the evermighty **** out of you...

yeah i said there are SOME good boxers but the ones I have met are crap and i had many street fights with boxers and they would always try and back off so they can keepme at a distance (i was a idiot back in the day and would bum rush people in fights would work more often then what you would think.......just lucky i never faced off against many who knew what they were really doing)

but the fights i had involed me getting in super close and just going ape **** while they would try and keep me at a distance so they could punch me the right way (not the weaker clinch punches)

but thats just me

you don't have to act like a douche because someone disagrees with you, and to be fair your definition of san shou works as well I don't disagree.
