Id love to find a good site that sells a good heavyweight karate gi or a BJJ kimino(the ones that look like karate gi's but thick, not judo gi's.

Try BUDOVIDEOS.com they sell both for decent prices. A KIKSKIN is a good BJJ gi for around $100. I still have my first Kikskin after 5 yrs of rolling and competing.

You are better off paying a little extra for good quality than saving $25 and having to replace it in a year or so. I have never heard of Kikshin but I'm putting them on my list to check out the next time I need a new one.

padilla and sons are excellent and cheap (accepting the bjj tax), with minimal embroidery.

what's your issue with judogis? for karate use, a cheap judogi (that fits) should be pretty much indistinguishable from a cheap jiujitsugi. hell, a judogi will tend to stay tucked in better.

also, make sure you read through the equipment thread in dhs, and take a look at the reviews on jokerjitsu. some very good info on gis in both locations.

If you don't mind a Judogi instead of a "kimono" check out www.fushda.ca. I *highly* recommend Fushida in the way of judogi for those after a slimmer European cut. Its not quite as slim as BJJ competition dogi, but damn close. And the collars are a bitch to grip and choke with.

When you email the guy for info he'll send you an excel sheet to fill in with your body measurements just like when shopping for suits. While Christo currently doesn't custom size (yet) he will ensure you get the best stock fit possible. And I don't mean the standard weight and height size chart - they want measurements around your wrists, biceps, chest, etc. Since you're not in the market for a Judo competition legal dogi let em know about that and maybe they can get you a smaller size that still wears well.

Quality wise these things are top notch too. They've been getting rave reviews on judoforum.com and a few judoka in the Olympics were sporting Fushida. Their top of the line "Icon" compares to my Adidas Champion very well, but the Icon is cut more like a BJJ dogi (a bit baggier than most BJJ dogi - this is a Judo competition gi after all) and at $135 they're $100 cheaper.

Karategi I can't comment on, but heck get this nice, heavy, and stiff judogi, roll up the sleeves, sweat a bit extra, and get your karate on.

i tried to roll up the sleeves on my judogi once. THAT was a fucking mistake.

besides, it ruins the air flow.

In this case I just have you beat by proximity. Kinji San, who are the ones behind Ronin Brand, are in the neighborhood I grew up in.

Awesome. Ronin are my favs by far. Not too expensive, and they complement my dashing good looks. They don't mind frequent washings & drying either.

I got a really good judo gi from canbox.

I love it, but i can't fit it in my bag without having to throw out other gear, which i usually use in class like shin guards or boxing gloves.

Maybe i should just get a bigger bag or something.

Anyway, i wore a karate gi to grapple, and it got ripped in half(the lighter ones)
