LOUISVILLE -- A local man and his girlfriend pleaded not guilty to a host of charges in connection with a series of alleged sex-abuse crimes against two 13-year-old karate students.
Richard Woodard III, 38, is charged with seven counts of second-degree sodomy and six counts of second-degree rape, WLKY NewsChannel 32 reported Friday. His girlfriend, Lori Franklin, 37, faces several complicity to rape and sodomy charges.
Each was arrested Thursday, and indicted Friday.
According to police, Woodard sexually abused the two girls at his karate studio, Richard Karate Academy, on Dixie Highway, or at his home, WLKY reported.
They also said Franklin either participated or watched the abuse occur.
Several family members of the alleged victims said the couple threatened to kill the children if they told anybody about the alleged abuse. One family member, who wished to remain anonymous, said the couple has caused a lot of hurt, WLKY reported.
"Oh my goodness, all the hell you put these people through and the children you victimized and the families you've ruined," the family member said. "You need to pay for this. You need help. You need to go to prison."
Police said they believe more victims are out there, WLKY reported. If you have any information, you're asked to call Metro police's Crimes Against Children Unit at (502) 574-2465.
Woodard is being held on $50,000 bond, while Franklin's bond was set at $35,000.
Both will be back in court next month.
No other information is available.
