Daanish keeps bringing up how many good Muslims he knows as proof of how Islam is a civilized religion. (Didn't he just say "don't judge the religion by its adherents."?) I think this extends from a misunderstanding of the difference between criticizing Islam and criticizing Muslims. Most of the things I've said have to do with criticizing Islam.
If I was criticizing Muslims, I'd probably say something like "Muslims are deranged because they believe the Koran is a magic book and the best book ever written on any subject and was authored by a guy who lived in a cave ans spoke to an invisible space wizard and rode on a magical flying horse."

At most, cheating and almost any marriage breakup will affect the couple involved and immediate family directly. It is not anyone elses business, unless legal assistance is requested for any division of assets, and counselling is required. Of course these roles should be fufilled by neutral parties. I fail to see why a religious or secular court needs to interviene with any form of punishment, especially if the belief is that God will judge both parties anyway.

No laws, regardless of how they're written, will ever put an end to adultery. A debate about which anti-adultery laws is just plain silly, whether it's mandated by church or state.

The concept of Islam is having a society which functions as a collective, things such as adultery and fornication disrupt the harmony of such a society. God will judge after death... but that gets in the way of having a stable, well worked society on earth. Thats the theory behind it. So its a society where everyone lives by a high moral code.

If fanaticism is itself to blame then why aren't the most fanatical Jainists flogging homosexuals and hijacking planes? Becuase the core tenet of Jainism is never harm a living thing under any circumstances. The moderate Jains are people who go about their daily business, don't eat meat and prefer to put a spider outside than spray it with bug-spray. The hard Jainists that become monks sweep the floor in front of them before they walk to avoid stepping on insects and they run hospitals for injured animals. The more fanatical you go down the Jainism path, the less violent you get.
So it isn't fanaticism. If it was then we would find equal numbers of Jainist suicide bombers, Buddhist terrorists and New Thought Universalists declaring Fatwahs against people who criticize them.

This last story is interesting. Lot and a bunch of guys were staying at a village and a roving gang of ass-bandits starts banging on the door in the middle of the night. Lot gets up and asks who it is. "Ass bandits" they reply. "What do you want?" asks Lot. "We want to sell you encyclopedias. We're ass bandits, what do you think we want?" Lot says that ass-banditry is frowned upon by God so he offers up his daughters to be raped by them instead. What a fucking stupid book.
So that's five direct quotes from the bible. The whole section where he justifies homophobic bigotry is bible references and stories. There's nothing else but that. So he's put his justification for bigotry right on the table. He's offered the quotes and we have confirmed that the quotes say what he says they do.
And to think that the moderates are really puzzled as to why their fundamentalist brethren are so bigoted and backwards. They believe the bible is a magic book and it says the sort of things outlined above. Of course they are going to be bigots.
