I was just wondering withthe constant arguments of the antiground fighters and the proground fighters, how many of the grapplers/groundfighters have successfully used it in a street fight and what happened when you did?

I've probably been in about 5 street fights - the only one that ended up on the ground invloved multiple people.

It's funny because I am pro-groundfighting - but have never needed it.

I think the confidence you get from knowing you can handle yourself on the ground makes you a better stand-up fighter.

I've choked someone out in a streetfight that was bigger than me. I hit him first but we scuffled and went down. He had friends with him and nobody did a thing. If they did I would have gotten hurt or maybe someone would have broken it up or I could say MAYBE a million times. The fact is he was bigger, we scuffled and his greater weight forced me to the ground. I have WAY more experience in standup fighting than I do on the ground. I thinks its funny that people label me a grappler. I think I will NEVER in my LIFE be as good a grappler as I am a standup fighter.

Well I kinda have a story, My cousin who is as big as I am but 1 1/2 years younger was being stupid and was picking a fight with me. So it came to a clinch and I used a hip throw and landed on top of him, trapped his arms and neck and told him he had better stop before I beat the crap out of him.

I've heard of some fights where a BJJ guy was getting kicked in the head by a guy's friends when he was in the mount hitting another guy. Then one of my instructors, who was a bouncer at the time, got in a fight, took a guy down for control and almost got stabbed with a pencil. It missed him and went through his shirt. Then he pounded the guy. I do remember one fight of mine I had. This guy hit me in my stomach then he clinched with me and tried to choke me ( I had no grappling training at this time) I slammed my elbow as hard as I could into his stomach, or so I thought it was his stomach. :) I bet his nuts were really hurting after that. Then he got pissed and tried harder to choke me. I had an opportunity to get out after the elbow slam cause he loosed up, but I wasn't fast enough. Then someone came and broke it up. I wish I knew a little grappling then cause it would've been easier to get out; he didn't even have his hooks in so it would've been simple.

Grappling is excellent for bigger guys, or at least wrestling, some guy I know has been attacked several times - hhe usual just wrestles them down, mounts and strikes (has absolutely no training of any sort.)
Nautral reaction for smaller people, say for when you were in school is to just headlock some1, with no grappling/wrestling exeprince it can be really difficult to get out of, too much striking not really recommended/helpful.

You need to know how to escape if you're mounted... Knowing grappling doesn't hurt anything. You need to use discretion when you fight, and when you run away.

BTW - that clinch guy who got elbowed probably wasn't a decent clincher if you were able to so easily do that, IMHO

Nihuilanthic, the guy knew a little wresting, I think, but that's all. He was behind me trying to choke, I'm not sure if I made that clear. He had no submission skills at all.

He was behind you and was going for a clinch?
I am confused.

No, ok play by play this is what happened. We were squared up. He hit me with an uppercut to the stomach and came charging at me. There was a bed behind me so we both fell over that. We were laying on the bed; he had gotten behind me and tried to choke me.

So he had you on the bed and was trying to get behind you? Maybe he was just trying to make freinds? :-)

I've been in a number of fights that ended up on the ground. It was not my strong point, but I managed.

Problem #1 of JJ or BJJ. Why put all the fucking effort into one person? You think his friends are just gonna stand around with their thumbs up their ass? Break his damn arm, or dislocate his jaw, something quick, and move on. It's not hard to break an arm and it's not like you can really "defend" your elbow (probably easiest place to break someones arm). It's not hard to dislocate someones jaw. The cops apparently have an easier time doing that than performing a choke without killing a person. If the cops can do it, any retard on the street can.

Defend your elbows... hahahaha. I'm writing that one down...

>Grappling is excellent for bigger guys, or at least wrestling,

I disagree. This takes ASSUMES the bigger guy doesn't know how to grapple. With all the publicity in the fighting world about BJJ, MMA, and grappling in general how often are you going to run into someone who DOESN'T know anything about grappling? I say this because I dealt with pple who thought that I didn't know how to grapple and thought they can run a simple 'ground and pound' game. Really shocks them when I am choking the **** out of them.

Little guy goes to grapple with bigger guy. Little guy most likely going to get crushed.

I greatly advise NOT going to the ground if possible. Best to be mobile. If you do end up on the ground then make it as quick as possible. Which may not be easy for reasons I sited above. If your opponent has a good grapple game you may be there for awhile. The longer you fight you increase you chances of losing.
