The superheavyweight Judo Gold medalist this year called out Fedor for a fight. He's never fought anything resembling an MMA match before, but I think this would be pretty entertaining as one of those new years random bullshit fights they do in Japan. Except this time with someone who can throw people around like a ragdoll.
Should be entertaining for the 20 seconds it lasts...

If they did it in gi vs kurtka, I might actually watch it. No gi, not so much.

Combat Sambo rules would in fact be kind of neat.
Actually, does anything prevent this guy from just entering a SAMBO tournament that fedor is competing in?

What an arrogant wanker. There are much easier, less painful ways to commit suicide.

He's Japanese. Suicide is literally an art form to those people.

A new CSI term will be born "Suicide via Fedor". But seriously what makes this guy want to do mma? If I was an olympian I'd stick with medal winning.

Maybe he wants to make reall money? It's not like thet don't have their share of olympic medalists in mma in Japan. But hey, he's a kamikaze konoyaro

Hasn't this been done before ? I remember Pride FC having an a gold medal olympic judo vs olympic wrestler (Rulon Gardner) match. I don't recall the judokas name but he was Japanese if that's any help. Oh, sorry.
I'm all for more Judoka in MMA, but couldn't Ishii fight someone with slightly less experience for his first fight than Fedor- so maybe he'll be able to have a second?

The part that really sucks is he got a gold metal in the olympics, but he still can't be Fedor.
Phelps got loads of golds, why aren't you on his back about not being able to beat fedor? MMA is a very different sport to Oly Judo, which is why I wish he'd make the transition easier for himself. The sad bit is not that he can't beat fedor even though he won a gold medal in a different sport, the sad bit is that if Ishii started where most MMA fighters start: fighting people who aren't the best of the best for his first few fights, then we'd have a champion judoka fighting in MMA while he's still on top form, which would make for some interesting fights.
I'm not against a judo gold medalist fighting mma...the sport has seen its share of judo throwers...the point is...why not a couple of tune up fights and then go for the moneyshot? Heck, how about starting by actually training in mma? Or is he one of those that think you can survive on one art alone in the mma arena?
Oh and yeah, I love judo and he would toss me around like a ragdoll!

People need to think less about the prospect of getting the crap lkicked out of you when you fight Fedor and more about the truly epic amounts of money that Ishi will get if he does this to fully understand why he wants to do this, particularly when you consider how little money there is in Judo to start with.
Edit: Also, the dude has to have a chance of lasting longer than poor old Tim Sylvia did, if he managed that then the lulz would be epic on my part. Oh and I'd finally be cheering for someone other than Fedor in a fight, which would make a nice change.
