So who will be at the tourney at the end of June? Just curious.
Gi & No-Gi
I am on the fence, but most of my classmates are going.
I don't really have that competetive attitude. I'd do the 30+ yrs, hopefully 140-149. i am not sure which level. technically I have done jits for a while, but it has been off and on and I am still a white. I actually started at Tim's school before it was Tim's school. At any rate, I hate sandbaggers.
Hehe, the way I figure it, any sandbagger who needs to sandbag down to white belt deserves to have their ass handed to them by one who has been doing it for a way long time. (I'm not implying you are sandbagging FYI)
Tim's school took 6th place, team score, with only 5 competitors last time:p. We are gonna try and make a bigger showing this time around. Where you from? If you are still close by, come on down for a class. He gives up a free class to anyone who's from anywhere.
Also, the way I figure it, the only real way to know how good I am is to throw myself into the mix with people I've never rolled with before. I guess I just feel like this is the culmination of my training.
That is my problem. If I go intermediate, then I honestly don't have a chance, but I feel like beginner is sandbagging (even though in reality there is so much sand bagging that the beginners are like intermediates)...one of my teammates competed in the last one and he told me he saw the beginner novices (under 30yrs) doing flying triangles and armbars. The whole thing becomes a little ridiculous.
You going o the throwdown on sunday in NYC?
Nah I'm in RI and with gas prices as they are and the commute I do every day, I feel like I really shouldn't. Plus my stand-up is abysmal. The last one I only saw one flying armbar, and it was intermediate from a purple belt who won 1st in his purple belt gi comp. That was definitely a sandbagger, but other than that it seemed fair. The guy I lost to in the final of my Gi had been doing it for as long as I, and got me cause I fucked up, not cause he was hugely better.
I should try and make it to the next throwdown though, maybe one in MA when there is one. Where do you train BJJ now?
I train over at Nexus in wareham.
I wanted to do gi/no-gi and MT. This is by far the best school I have trained at (nothing against Tim or his school, I sjut like this school alot)
I hope to be there. Novice no gi 169. This will be my first competition and I only started training in February, but I'm looking forward to it.
I train at www.mmatcenter.com for the record. Nice place and the people have been really friendly and helpful (not that I have anything to compare it to).
I used to train under Matt at Mass Submission Academy for a short bit.
