Lord Skeletor
4/29/2008 6:29pm,
I know that I'm going to catch hell from you bastards about this---but I'm not very knowledgable about nutrition, burning calories, and similar stuff. The question actually involves my girlfriend. When I first started dating her, she was 5'4 and around 95 lbs. She looked very nice. In the past few years, she's still 5'4 and weighs about 120---I think that she has filled out and looks even better. She considers herself fat and is going crazy with dieting, trying to get herself down under 100lbs.
Here's the diet question---she's doing like 300-400 calories for breakfast (oatmeal/cereal), a Slim-Fast + a diet hot pocket for lunch, and doing a Slim Fast for dinner. Basically---her caloric intake is around 1000 or so calories a day---with semi-moderate exercise.
My problem with this is that I work 12-13 hours a day---and with her daylight hours job, she's wanting to be in bed around 830PM to wake up around 530-600AM in the morning.
So..when I get off work, I want to have an evening/dinner meal with her, maybe hang out---go somewhere for a while; whatever. She's now like, "You go eat somewhere--then we can hang out." She seems to think that if she eats anything in the evening hours, that its more likely to be stored as fat, and thus---she won't eat anything past 4PM. I'm telling her that it's unhealthy and if your body needs calories, it's going to break down fat/muscle if you're not feeding it right---thus, starving yourself during the day your body might tap into its fat and muscle reserves---it shouldn't matter when you take in calories; Hell I dunno---what to the weight loss/weight management wrestler/athelete types here think? Hell, I even offered to pay to take her to a nutritionist to help her work something out where we could at least eat a meal together---but she's hesitant because she's sure that she's right. What the hell, man...what do you athletes here think?
