Hi, I'm wondering if there are any weapon forms that are independant of learning the emtpy hand form that precedes it. Wing Chun weapons are just...dead boring... and escrima I can't start because my sifu wants me to finish Chum Kiu before he teaches me anything.

I looked at the Tonfa, the short staff and the whip but....arghhh!!

So you want to go against your Sifu's training curriculum?

I got an idea. Drop out of your school & go find a school that teaches weapons right away.

Where would you learn said weapons like the tonfa & the short staff? From vid{os?

From vidos?
Sadly, this is the answer for most people seeking "instant wepun".

You just rated your school high ( to high IMO in some areas) and now you are going against your instructor?

Now before we get into the whole I pay for instruction argument. Every school has a set curriculum to follow. Yes, even MT, BJJ or any of the so called sport arts.

If it is so important, save your money and do a seminar at some Martial Art festival.

Ditto what the others have said.

Don't you think you should get a handle on using empty hands before putting a weapon in them?

before the cream sits out too long...

FWIW I learn most of my weapons forms independently of the empty hand forms... "seminar" forms...

but I dig learning the big heavy weapons, so I end up learning them.
