Fools, nerds control the world.

Little known fact: Cheney and Rove are both mean Dungeon Masters.

Intellectuals have, for the most part, abandoned brute force and strength in favor of reason. For this reason they prefer martial arts that tell them that strength and brute force are irrelevant.

I am fascinated by this topic. So I will start with some autobio...my path to HS wrestling started in Jr High. I was going to be starting HS and wanted to get girls. Guys with letter jackets seemed to do well at this. Joined 6th period PE which is the athletes PE class without a sport. Too small for football, did not know how to play basketball, and did not want to run cross country. A friend joined wrestling and I tagged along. No tryouts, no cuts, starters are chosen by challenge matches. Continued my other nerdy activities: band, academics, etc. Shocked the hell out of myself when I found out I could defend myself.

Overall point: nerdy types who aren't involved in physical activity previously, often lack the tools to evaluate a martial art. I got involved in a very effective art since I wanted a letter jacket, but I could easily have been fooled by bullshido. How would I know better?

I have worked in the academic and blue-collar worlds and found intelligence in surprising places.

The brightest man I've ever met in the entire world comes from a tiny fishing island in the middle of the Pacific. The population on that island can't be more than some hundreds.

Wisest man I ever met was an ex-con as well a former heroin and cokaine addict.

Super awesome guy. I miss that bastard.

It wasn't Philip K. Dick by any chance was it?

I have to strongly disagree on this one. True intellectuals use reason, and are at the heart of this website. Modern intellectuals often abandon reason and are subject to all sorts of nonsense. You can actually call yourself; and be considered an intellectual and never take college math (calculus at least) or a hard science. You can even be a professor without these key ingredients of a liberal education. These pseudo-intellectuals though would meet your description very well. Also, real intellectual development is very hard. Real training is very hard. If you avoid one you may have the temperment to avoid the other.

The Question

What does that mean? What defines an intellectual? Because I know guys who have never been in fights in their lives and like to reason and so on, but dominate other people in the gym.

Now, if someone is weak, and they don't want to get stronger, they will easily be led to the Martial Arts systems that you describe. But the being weak, and being an intellectual are unrelated.

The Question

Incidentally, I decided to test an aspect of my geekiness against that of some of the guys at the gym. Someone hard ringworm on their arm, I said "yo, you should *Rock Lee* that ****". No one knew what I was talking about.

This is Rock Lee. Notice how his entire forearms are wrapped. If you get cut, or have ring worm on your arm, you should Rock Lee that ****.

It was only a matter of time until someone puts out a fucking Naruto reference. Dude even Naruto fans wouldn't know what you meant by saying "Rock Lee that ****". Oh, here's some trivia for you, since you are not only a Naruto fan but also a Rock Lee fan. What famous actor/martial artist is Rock Lee inspired from? I mean by design and name? It's an obvious one...

Oh, and "Berserk" rocks "Naruto" in it's fucking nuts, BTW. I bet even non-anime fans would like Berserk.

I have found that geeks LOVE pressure-points, because they basically correspond to Easter Eggs of the human body. What geek doesn't delight in knowing cheat codes you don't?

Wow...that is the best explanation for pressure point fascination I've ever heard.

Dude, are you fucking kidding me? Come on, man, come on, that ****'s insulting. Do you know who I am? Do you know who the **** I am?

I've been hearing about Beserk for years. Still haven't made it through the series yet. Then again, I also haven't made it through The Vision of Escaflowne yet. Sometimes I think I never will.

Berserk does rock, but the Rock Lee method of preventing ringworm is far better than the Guts method (aka amputation).

Watch Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or Mobile suit Gundam 00.
One is about giant robots fighting furries the other is about a terrorist organization attacking the US, The EU and Asia for the greater good of ending war.

I've seen almost every mobile suit gundam series. The 2000 Gundam 083 was so far the best one yet. The rest were either **** or pretty good.

The **** is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann about? Furries or mecha's?
