Hey guys,

I'm just prepping for a week long exercise as part of my pre-deployment phase of training.

We're doing a **** load of F.I.S.H or : Fighting In Someone's House (lol) as part of our overall OBUA - Operations (in) Built Up Areas prior to our pending six month jolly in the 'stan.

I'll be back a week on Monday so will post some pictures for you to laugh at/marvel/discuss. Many of the guys are new to the squadron and this will be their first time out operating at Flight level. The week is going to be wary as **** with each man carrying around 660 rounds each (per day) around 12-15 simulated grenades (thunder flash) and as much smoke and other **** as required.

We've got a compliment of OPFOR consisting of both enemy and civi populous to deal with in addition to the clearance ops so it's going to be fun and knackering. Hopefully I won't fall off the climbing rope (again) like I did last time as I tried to scale in to the second floor window of one particular house.

Tell your leader you're only are going to the 'stan to find some OPP regardless of the tactical consequences, see if he knows that acronym :)

Cool. Sounds like fun, except the part about being a mobile ammo dump... and falling off the side of a building.

Video or it didn't happen.... err, I mean, looking forward to the pictures.

Thats a lot of fucking ammo to carry. This isn't the only time we'll be doing this mate, just an introduction for those who've never done it before and need to be brought up to speed before this is done on a Squadron (Company) level.

Maybe it's nearing its 20. Use it or lose it.

Uhh, what?

Long ago and far away, rounds that were nearing the 20-year mark had to be either fired on some ex or disposed-of due to chemical changes in the powder. Guess that's no longer the case.

You're wearing one of those goofy bowl helmets and that's an SA-80 you're packing in your avatar, right? So you're a "Britisher" as the Afghanis seem fond of saying. Right?

We US guys call OBUA, MOUT - Military Operations in Urban Terrain.

The UK Army is more fun than the US Army. Your training is tougher and your dining ins are a fucking riot. Had I not been such a knobber, I would have joined the UK Army (I used to hold dual citizenship.) I would have joined The Black Watch Regiment as a cadet. That would have been sweet.

..//..13 fuckin grenade sims, christ, reminds me of a war story I'll throw on the war story tread so I won't hijack yours.Yup, we're clearing the whole fuckin' village and if I get my way I'll be torching the fucker as well... Platoon Stylee :-)

Some our newer guys haven't done FISH before and where we're going has a sewer run as well which, if we're feeling twatish, we'll make them clear that as well. LOL !! Not to mention a full advance to contact and fire fight BEFORE the clearance op goes in. Oh happy days ahead !

The UK Army is more fun than the US Army. Correction my dear Goon.. I'm in the RAF Regiment so the fun factor doubles again by a factor of 2 against the PONGOS (what we Rock Apes call the Army)
..//..Your training is tougher and your dining ins are a fucking riot. Well we don't get the nice warm weather :-) and we like to have a good time on our Squadron dinners (which often includes abusing the occifer types of course !)

Digi' camera all charged up so photos up by Monday of next week all things being equal.

So the Brits use squadrons and flights in the army?

Rock Ape
3/24/2008 2:41am,
No, not in the line infantry. Those that do include - Transport & Logistics/Signals/Special Forces

I'm in the RAF Regiment hence we use "Section" "Flight" "Squadron" "Wing" where as within the [majority] Army - "Section" "Platoon" "Company" "Battalion"

F.I.S.H. ? O.B.U.A.? Wow, terminology has changed. I thought it was all F.I.B.U.A. (Fighting In Built Up Areas). I must have slipped behind the Times (again) :-)

We call it F.I.S.H because we got tired of all the name changes. FIBUA, OBUA, MOUT. Just easier to say fighting in someones house.
