Hello all, I live in a small town with a very limited choice with regard to MA training. I have been going to judo for seven months now, thing is it is primarilary a kids club with only one adults class per week. There is a jujitsu club not to far away that some of our people train at. I had a chat with some of them and they were pretty open about saying the jj club aint that great and the only ones who were any good were those who also did judo. There is also a goju club that focus heavily on bukai and a fifteen minute train ride away is a hapkido place who train weekends.
In an ideal world I'd be doing judo and other 'alive' arts but it looks like I'm going to have to make do with what's available. So here's my question, can judo 'breath life' as it were into traditional martial arts the feature lots of throws, takedowns etc, or am I hoping for to much?
Interested in your opinions, thanks.

Judo has helped my Arnis and Muay Thai drastically. My control in the clinch is much better, and my understanding of leverage and footwork has improved.

I guess the question is whether you'd be better off doing Judo and some other (might be crap) art, or just to say screw it and devote yourself fully to Judo. Sometimes it's good to dabble, other times it's better just to focus on one thing and get really good at it.

I just started cross-training in Judo after getting my bb in Hapkido.

I think these arts go very well together. Hapkido is essentially a stand-up art with striking, locks and throws. I would check out the HKD school near you. Unfortunately, quality can vary. If it's a HKD-only dojang your chances are probably better of finding a quality place than if it's a TKD school that happens to teach HKD on the side. HKD and Judo both have their roots in Japanese Jujutsu, so there will be some overlap between the two.

I love Judo so far, but I also still really like to kick and punch people which is what HKD gives me.

P.S. Does the HKD school have a website?

a good friend was studying HKD he relay loved it and it seems like a good place to start they cover all the necessary basics which should give you a good understanding of a well balanced system. I can only recommend going to a few classes if you like stick with it!
