No, i'm not being sarcastic. I swear to god this is a real life problem that happens to me all the time, and i don't know what to do.
And i forget to ask my coach.
Got this guy in my full guard, broken down, everything.
But he Amerikanas (or kimura, key lock, ude-garame, you know what i mean). He never finishes, but i want to know something i can do besides arching my hips and yanking my arm back...
Also what else can you do from north-south besides inverted arm bar/kimura? (i train gi and no gi, so answers for either situation would be cool)
Thanks, and sorry for being an idiot.

Head and arm choke. Grab a partner and figure it out. It's right there.

Or if hes really that dumb and is trying hard for the Americana you should be able to sweep him because his weight will be waaaay off balance, or if hes way over just take his back.
...or armbar him, or take his back. So many reasons what he's doing is dumb.

1. Practice more
2. Ask your instructor, it's what you pay him for
3. Prepare to be mocked by keyboard warriors

I find it's usually easiest to sweep people who go for submissions inside the guard. I have no idea what it's called, but you know the one sweep where you have a butterfly hook under one leg and an outside hook on the other? Yeah, that one's pretty good.

1. When he goes for the figure-4, both of his arms are across your body. Either take his back as he's already pretty much swept himself, or straight armlock, or use Omega's option of the arm-triangle - a favourite of mine for the noob who likes to shove a forearm into your face or neck while inside guard.
2. From N/S, you have the option of Clock choke (in gi) or guillotine choke without the gi.

Are you talking about the N/S from sprawl or after you pass the guard? When it's after sprawl I always take the back, which gets the most points and is the most effective.

You're not controlling his upper body well enough from your guard. He shouldn't have the time nor the opportunity to get a figure four with his arms - you should control your opponent better and go on the offense, looking for sweeps and subs.

D'Arce. Monson.
Thanks, and sorry for being an idiot.
We all gotta start somewhere.
D'Arce. Monson.
Oh man, i can't believe i didn't see it before.
thats like a rear naked, but your on top and from the front?
Or do you have the arm in there? I know a darce when someone shoots in, but how do you do it if your in north-south (on top)

Monson choke doesn't have arm in there.

N-S more of a transitional position when you are trying to set up or finish the brabo from say half guard or a bad shoot. If you are in topside N-S, and they end up with an arm out and move onto their side when they are trying to escape, you could slap it on.

3/07/2008 7:00am,
I'm giving away my favorite choke here, but you can also choke them with the arm in in a reverse arm triangle from N-S instead of the Monson or if they keep the arm in to defend the Monson. The pressure is different for the finish but the setup is similar and they chain very well.
Cant help you. I have no ground game but shouldnt you be asking your coach as it happens?
I typed out a rather extensive response last night that gave you two options. Afterwards, I realized that my post described only how to counter when someone tries to kimura you while in your guard. Checking your original post, I realized you don't know the difference between the terms americana and kimura, and decided if you didn't care to know the difference, I didn't care enough to post.
