Frank Edgar. Because Gray Maynard has no wins over anyone near a contending position. Edgar has wins over Tyson Griffin and Spencer Fischer. If Gray is fighting Edgar then Diaz should be getting a title shot. Who are you putting your money on and why?

Frank Edgar and the opponents he's faced seemed to impress me a lot. I usually don't care about Maynard's fights except for the fact that he's facing Edgar this time. I don't know about 20 or 30 seconds but I'd say Maynard would be lucky to get past the first round. Although 2008 could become just an extension of 2007. Flying yoga wristlock by Maynard?

Maynard's more accomplished in scholastic wrestling than Edgar, but they're not far off. It's not a given that Gray will outwrestle him.

After seeing Maynard's improved standup in his last fight, I definitely think this'll be a great match.

I don't like this matchup, and I actually agree with the OP. What is Maynard doing fighting Edgar? Maynard may be marketable but he doesn't deserve this yet. Edgar has positioned himself to be fighting someone accomplished within the division. This is a step down for him. Put it this way, Maynard is way behind Griffin and Edgar defeated Griffin.

I attribute this match being made to show that Extreme Couture guys aren't any good. Sort of a personal jab at Randy. Randy is in a legal battle with the UFC, what better way to get back at him than to throw his lesser experienced fighters against guys they probably can't beat. Just my opinion.

That's pretty much my point. Edgar is not going to out wrestle Gray, which has been a large part of his success.
