I know that Krav Maga in isreal i solid, but crap everywhere else( think asia said he worked with some authentic krav maga guys, so im going off what some posters here experienced)
I forgot the name, and can find no trace of it.
Is it an obscure system like Defendo is in canada?
But what about this system? Anyone have experience working with it? Is it bullshit? Or is it something they can take pride in?
Also, i know Iran has some great wrestling history, So if anyone worked with them, i would be interested.
I remember reading about it, long ago, but can't find anything on it now. I know it's relativly new.
Unfortunatly, trying to find the name of it, this is the closest thing i can find.
And it makes me cry:
PLEASE GOD: LET THIS NOT BE THE FIGHTING ARTS OF XERXES!!!!! GOD WHAT THE ****
I heard their cavalry were pretty **** hot. They probably have a strong wrestling tradition too, most people "round there" seem to.
My gut feeling on those vids is "shitty kung fu dressed up with a little Persian flavour" though.
I know they have great wrestlers.
Even today, they are well known to have good wrestlers(same with India and pakistan, the country is full of them)
Welcome to T.O.A.S. Nabard, Where discipline of body becomes discipline of life.
It is our sincere desire that you will feel sense of belonging as the T.O.A.S. Way inspires you to look more closely at who you are.
In T.O.A.S. Nabard you will find a comprehensive assortment of body/ mind developing techniques such as: IRON-BODY pain resistance, BEYOND PHYSICAL meditation, OCTOPUS SPARRING STRATEGIES, and TRADITIONAL WEAPONS TRAINING.
In each element of the T.O.A.S. Nabard Training System, you will be challenged on both mental and physical levels, to go beyond the norm and discover the WARRIOR WITHIN.
T.O.A.S. is the acronym for- Transcendental Organized Applied Strategies. Nabard is the word ancient Persians used in reference to "art of combat". Therefore T.O.A.S. Nabard translates as: Transcendental Applied Strategies in the art of combat. T.O.A.S. Nabard is internationally recognized Persian Art of Combat
Based on a quick skim of the site, I'd say TOAS Nabard is "Persian" in the sense that the instructor is Persian and he likes to refer to ancient Persian warriors, but as far as I can tell most of the actual martial arts content is neo-Chinese, with some creative modern flourishes.
For historically authentic Iranian martial culture see the Varzesh-e Pahlavani and Zurkhaneh training:
A good documentary on training in the Zurkhaneh - in German, but worth watching if you want to see real old-school Iranian martial training:
http://www.thinktoas.com/images_release/general/hr/utd_1_med.jpg Doesn't matter where in the world you are, if there's a shitty martial art it always comes back to wing fucking chun doesn't it? Sorry, I meant _ing _un.
Here's an interesting article on traditional Shia martial arts (or at least, a spiritual practice with some fighting art links) in Iran:
And here's a Wiki entry fleshing Varzesh-e Pahlavani out further:
The Varzesh-e Pahlavani is serious stuff - see the video link I posted above. It's a very interesting combination of heavy-duty workout, religious ritual and martial training. The top Iranian kushti wrestlers are almost always graduates of Zurkhaneh training.
Wrestling and TKD are big there. Judo is gaining a lot of popularity as well as MMA and BJJ. Iranians are all about MA.
