You and I could have a few bouts. Sabre or epee?

Whichever you like, anything but foil. And I'd really like to try sparring with any FMA practitioners, see how modern fencing stacks up with kali or arnis. Anyone want to try two sticks or daggers against a sabre?

You realize if I try double daga on you I will have to rush you?
It may be painful!
It might actually be best to bring an extra sabre so I can have
a comparable weapon (otherwise those sticks can sting!)

If you want to try sparring with me sabre against sabre or epee against epee, be my guest; but you may want to ask Cmorra if that's a good idea, she's seen me in competition. I'd rather see you with your specialty, and take whatever lumps I have coming like a man.

That wasn't a testosterone moment on my part :)
I was just thinking that if we went fencing saber vs.
rattan it is possible that the impact shock of the
baston might give an unfair advantage. As long
as we are giving credit for both slashs AND thrusts
I see no reason why identical weapons wouldn't make
things more fair.
Honestly.. there is no way I would ever aproximate
something that looked like sport fencing.. it would
look like a machete or cutlass technique (or a
old-time cavalry saber). I've worked my drills
with all of the above at times.


I'm interested in watching the interplay of
technique, pro and con, not bludgeoning
someone with an equipment advantage.
(Unless the disadvantage is an AGREED upon
part of the learning experience of course!)

Alternately we could do a trio of bouts..
(fencing w/) saber vs. (kali w/) saber
(fencing w/) baston vs.(kali w/) baston
and then
fencing saber vs. kali baston.

Tell me what ya think....

We can work something out; it sounds good.

This will be fun to watch.

I guess I should explain that picture. We weren't actually rolling. I had just started BJJ and he was showing me things that I didn't know. I'm not sure why he was in my guard while we were doing this, but he was, and friends decided to take pictures.
