thing about this is, it confirms my theory on internet douchebaggery.

question is actually a pretty nice, though geeky dude once you've met him, but online he's a complete and utter douche.

i thought that kempo was the prototypical example of this phenomenon, but guess who just beat him out?

Dude, everyone's a douchebag on the internet. It's like crack, man. You hop on it once and you're forever changed.

Geeky? The Question is geeky? What the ****, man? What the ****?

KempoFist is the epitome of what's wrong with the internet. Also, he's a bad person.

I'm good for a few rounds sanda rules, I'm in a bit better shape this time around, actually been training stand-up again.

I'll take you up on that, I've lost some weight, but I'm not sure how much better my cardio will be.

Domite, could you lay out Sand Da rules for the uninformed?

Knees to the body, kicks anywhere, punches, sweeps, throws.

No elbows, no ground fighting.

edit: not the best vid ever, just threw the first sanda fight that came up on youtube.

the rules vary a lot between organizations. in china, in the "pro" league, i believe they allow knees to the head as well, and elbows to the body. in some of the crossover events with thai fighters they have set up modified rules to allow elbows (with elbow pads on.)

here in the US the rules are different from event to event. some allow knees to the body, some don't. some fights are in a ring and some are on a platform, or even on a gym floor with tape to show the boundaries.

throws are a big part of sanda, and the most points are scored by cleanly throwing your opponent while remaining standing yourself. unlike muay thai, hip throws and sweeps are all allowed. wrestling takedowns that involve dropping a knee to the ground actually count against you, as that knee on the ground counts as a throw against you under most rule sets. this means that while high shots are fine, low shots will either not count or count against you.

unlike shoot boxing from japan, there are no standing submissions.

You seem to know alot more about the rule sets, but my understanding was that shooting in with the knee was fine in sanda but cost points in san shou.

So if you are coming in at me I cant knee your head but then you get to kick me in the head later in the bout and knock me out?

like i said, it seems to vary from organization to organization. this is quite frustrating to be honest when training for an event, we have to tailor our workout based on what is allowed. the worst is when they don't decide on the exact rules until the day before the event (yes this has happened to us.)

under amateur rules... yes. you say that like it's a bad thing. deal with it or fight as a pro.

this is the same with amateur MMA and muay thai i believe, so i think it has a lot to do with the sanctioning bodies and what is considered ok for amateur sports.

doode, why do so many people think they dcan actually knee someone in the head when they're being shot in on?! i just can't see it happening unless you have an amazing striker versus a shitty grappler or something like that.

Its rare, but anybody can **** up. But I don't know that I've ever seen it conclusively finish somebody either.

Only one I've seen do it with finishing power is Kid Yamamoto. There also have been some flying knees in the UFC which have really jarred some fighters as they started to switch levels.
