I know most of you aren't keen on Wing Chun, so I was wondering what you all think of Alan Orr. He is pretty well known over here for teaching Wing Chun for MMA, and he also writes a column in the biggest martial arts magazine, MAI.
Here is a link to his website
http://www.alanorr.com/htdocs/products/extremwingchun.html
and here is a link to one of his Wing Chun fighters competing in MMA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= video id #[/
Personally he seems legit to me. He has a wing chun fight team that competes in MMA, and he says he has proof that his style of Wing Chun is effective

His name has come up a few times and there's been no reason to doubt his legitimacy. Personal opinions about _ing _un aside, these guys train hard and are happy to compete, so good luck to them.

Madhorse, may I make a friendly suggestion:
how about the next time you have a splendid idea for a brand new thread, you actually use the SEARCH function in the upper right hand corner of the Bullshido.net homepage and type in key words of your phenomenal idea to see if anybody else thought of the same thing before you.
Because, chances are, they did.
Thank you.
Oh, and the Orr DVD's seem to suffer from terrible overuse of the word "extreme" on their covers as well as a terrible overpricing, IMO...

ok sorry I normally do that but this time I assumed there was not such a thread.

To sum up the other threads on this:
Alan Orr: We do WC for MMA.
Bullshidoka: (Watches fights.) Where's the WC in what you did?
Alan Orr: We dont use WC techniques, its the principles we use.
Bullshidoka: So its not really WC?
Alan Orr: Shutup, yes it is because we say so.

Or alternatively:
Predictable keyboard tough guyz: L00kz! Alan Orr says he does Wing Chun for MMA! lol!
Alan Orr: We train hard and our guys compete and do pretty well, we train various disciplines.
Predictable keyboard tough guyz: But it iz _ing _un! must be crap! Evry1 sez!
Alan Orr: Come and try out some classes, anyway I'm off to train.
Predictable keyboard tough guyz: BJJ wins again!

The only thing that made me a bit sceptical is he claims to have been taught catch wrestling by Matt Furey. IMO Matt Furey is the biggest joke I have ever seen, I don't see how anyone could take him seriously when he scams people by charging huge amounts for 'the farmer burns secret' that you could get online
also tony cecchine similiarly I have heard negative things about

Im not a keyboard tough guy if you read what I said I was actually pretty complementary on him demonstrating that Wing Chun could be used in MMA. I was using him to show people that different styles can be used in MMA and that he is an example

Is that a fact? Looks like you edited your first post to change the tone when you got pulled up on it.

No I edited my first post because I was having problems embedding the youtube link and it was coming out in jibberish so I had to edit it until I could get the link to work
You must have confused me with someone else I think it proves that you can use almost any style if you train it the right way

Where on that page does he claim to have learned catch from Furey or Cecchine? The only name he mentions is that of Eddy Millis. The link collection looks like a fairly innocuous for-more-info sort of thing.
