Hey ive been a practitioner of Genbukan for a while and i knew that Bujinkan existed but i never knew the difference or even that there was a conflict between the two schools. However, yesterday i was talking to my friend about MA and Genbukan came up he said he had a friend who did ninjutsu and that he said that Genbukan wasn't a legitimate art and that it was corrupt or something..... Wuts up with this? Is there some history between these two schools?
Your everyday lineage wars, nothing more. One of Hatsumi's students broke off from Bujinkan and got permission from other Takamatsu's students to teach his version of the arts they inherited from their master. Hatsumi got his panties twisted for that and Bujinkan rules state clearly that you can't have any contact with the other variants while studying Bujinkan.
At least that's how I remember it. Other guys (and previous threads) have better, more accurate versions.

Ok here is the full story as i understand it hopefully devoid of the bujinkan and genbukan propaganda.
Honestly, it basically started with Stephen Hayes. When Hayes was in Japan Hatsumi wasn’t his teacher; Tanemura was. Tanemura spoke English better then Hatsumi and therefore in charge of all the gaijin students. Well when Hayes returned the second time he decided he wanted Rank from Hatsumi and when around Tanemura. Tanemura wasn’t happy that about Hayes rank advancement; however, this was just a symptom of a larger problem.
Tanemura felt that the Bujinkan was becoming “bunnies.” (That was a favorite phrase of his). Well this cumulated when Tanemura showed up drunk at Hatsumi’s mother funereal. Basically Tanemura told Hastumi’s off and was thrown out of the funereal by some of the other Shihan.
Tanemura left that Bujinkan at this point and found Takamatsu’s other students, primarily Sato Kinbei and Akimoto Fumio (for Gikan-ryu). When Sato died Tanemura inherited his grandmasterships.
At his point Tanemura created his own organization “to preserve the essence of ninjutsu.” Basically at this point Tanemura got a LARGE chip on his shoulder, would often challenge Bujinkan students and if his students complained about the training being too hard, he say “Go train with the bunnies.” Which meant the bujinkan. Broken limbs were not uncommon in the original genbukan.
Over the years, Tanemura has calmed down and the chip is pretty much gone. Now the 2 organizations pretty much ignore each other.

Did they create any practical techniques out of this mini feud?, as conflict often creates neccesity which as we know is the mother of all invention.

Apparently the Genbukan spawned their Gohinjutsu from the Takamatsu-den stuff and Tanemura's experience as a police officer. I've never seen it in action, though, so I can't even give an educated guess on it. :profe:

Plasma,
Actually from what I head is that Tanemura kicked out a student who then went to go train directly with Hatsumi Sensei. And at the funeral he verbally accosted Hatsumi Sensei, and said that he goes or I go and Soke replied to the effect "Good Bye".

That fits essentially with Tanemura's own account of his split at
