What because my god doesnt wear snazzy hats, and tells me I am naughty when he watches me masterbate to midget retard porn...he isnt beneficial?

I wasn't suggesting there were no benefits, just asking what they are. Health plan perhaps?

The parents were taught to believe in the power of prayer over medicine. That religious belief caused the death of the child.

I read both versions of this story you posted and nowhere in it can I find who taught them these beliefs and when they were taught...in fact the only thing I could find was "The family does not attend an organized church or participate in an organized religion, Vergin said. "They have a little Bible study of a few people."

Damn you are a hard sell...I thought guilt free masterbation would have sealed the deal. Here is a quote from chapter 20 of the Tao Te Ching

"I am different from ordinary people.
I nurse from the Great Mother's breasts."

Who doesnt like boobs?

That's irrelevant. It is still their religious belief. The really sad and disturbing thing is that it seems they still hold to that belief. It's religion that encourages this kind of magical thought process. It teaches people that doubt is evil and faith is virtuous.

So? as you would Know Zap, Organised religions arnt the only ones out there. They still went with faith in prayer instead of getting medical assistance.

The same thing, of course, happens with people who are members of certain organised religions, such as "Christian scientists" (and Jehova's Witnesses, for certain medical procedures), so the evasion is rather weak.

Petter's right, hardcore JWs will refuse blood transfusions (citing the Old Testament verse that prohibits consuming animal blood, I believe) and Christian Scientists teach that pain and sickness are an illusion and that you can "believe" yourself better.

I'd just like to go on record as saying that Southern Baptists are perfectly okay with doctors and hospitals.

"You know, medicine is not an exact science, but we are learning all the time. Why, just fifty years ago, they thought a disease like your daughter's was caused by demonic possession or witchcraft. But nowadays we know that Isabelle is suffering from an imbalance of bodily humors, perhaps caused by a toad or a small dwarf living in her stomach." - Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber"

Did science or dumbassery cause this? ...

A man has an idea. The idea attracts others like-minded. The idea expands. The idea becomes an institution. What was the idea? See, that's what's been bothering me, boys. But I'll tell ya, when I used to think about the idea itself, it'd put a big old smile on my face.
