KU student accused of using ju-jitsu on woman in violent attack Kansas City News

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- It's an attack that has much of Lawrence talking, especially students on the campus of KU. A 22-year old KU senior, Matthew Jaeger, is accused of attacking his friend, a 22 year-old Lawrence woman. Police said the man used his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to severely injure the woman. Prosecutors are calling it one of the most horrific attacks in recent memory. The victim, 22-year-old Mary Biggs, remains hospitalized and is recovering from two surgeries and is preparing for more.

Lawrence police said at about 1:30 am Tuesday, Jaeger broke into Biggs' apartment. Police described the two as friends. Trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, police said Jaeger used the martial art to assault Biggs. Then police said he held her captive in his car. Inside his car, the police report said officers found an ax and a knife. At his arraignment, Jaeger pleaded with the judge that a lot of the details coming out about the attack were a big misunderstanding. But the Assistant Douglas County District Attorney presented photos of Biggs' injuries and he described the attack as extraordinarily horrific and one that left Biggs with severe wounds.

Because of her injuries and the nature of the crime, the judge set Jaeger's bail at $850,000 dollars. Jaeger is charged with aggravated kidnapping, battery, burglary and making criminal threats.

I'm sure the guy only meant to test the 'aliveness' of his art.

Kungfoolss you seem to be in a highly homo-erotic mood today ...I can't believe you are making this guy out to be the bad guy . He said it was a simple misunderstanding . You are just pissed because SCARS never makes the news .

Yah, we never go around beating up women. But, that's only because I'm a chauvinist, I don't see the point beating up on the weaker sex.

I don't really see why everytime you find some guy with martial arts training *accused* of something you post as though he's a)guilty and b)was trained to do that act in his martial arts class.

Also, that crap where the DA throws pictures of the injuries in front of the court to get hire bail is lame - it assumes guilt and doesn't speak to flight risk.

How did he give her "wounds" using BJJ? I assume that he beat her up with his fists. But it should be pointed out that even though he had a knife and an axe in his car, he still opted to attack her using SHOO SHITZU, proving that BJJ WINS AGAIN!

How's that for spinmastership.

Wounds? Maybe she got cut by the glass, lava, and/or AIDS needles lying around as he took her down.

Yeah, I mean what, did he hold her in guard and stab her? I am not sure how BJJ based techniques were used to injure the woman. Most of the techniques are pretty common sense unless he flying triangled her or did a reverse heel hook. It seems irrelevant considering he has a knife and axe in his car.

bad credit

Well, if he would've used SCARS or RBSD she would've beat him up.

The article went for the sensational, which was the BJJ. I find it comical to ignore the axe, knife, and not list any of her injuries. Working in "the system" I know that's not always possible, but when the injuries aren't listed, it usually means the reporter ran with what would grab headlines instead of reality.

Oh, and Johnny, it goes to the serious nature of the offense. As much as people like to think bail is just about "flight risk", the Court can also consider the serious nature of the offense, especially if the defendant is dumb enough to open his mouth and claim "it was all a misunderstanding". He had the right to remain silent, he needed to STFU.

BJJ is not a weapon art. If he used a knife and an axe it must have been Okinawan kobudo or something.

This is one of the things that makes bullshido.net awesome. People connected to the event get all outraged and come on to flame.

It also shows how the general public lacks reading comprehension and english language composition skills.
