curious as to some tips for having bigger opponents in guard. When i have some guy i can barely get my legs around he just strips it right off. Or if i have a guy who i can still get my legs around but he's just bigger then me they get out of my guard so quickly.
However if the opponent is my size i can keep him in guard, or smaller. Does anyone else have this problem, what do you do to stop a bigger person from ripping your guard off like a coupon. Thank you.

open guard is a good start :) You've got to learn to switch positions. Against people that are so big I can't close my legs I tend to prefer Spider or butterfly guard

yeha, open your fucking guard.
closed guard game is great for basics, but you learn so much more when you play a dynamic open guard.

You could always try rubber guard, there's a thread somewhere in here about it, there are 2 books on it, and vids on Youtube. Unfortunately, if you don't live in Vegas, that's about it in terms of instruction (or if your instructor experiments with it).

learn to move your hips and shift your shoulders. control their posture and it's very hard to pass someone's guard. threaten them with submissions and sweeps. keep them busy thinking about what you're going to do next rather than how they're going to pass your guard. learn to pummel with your legs as they try to clear them to pass your guard.

It's not rocket science, although there is alot of experimenting involved so I suppose if he's a total noob, he should work on closed guard basics or open his guard. This wasn't in Guantanamo when I posted it, so I just figured he had some experience already.

Vulgar42Ox,
You're lying flat on your back, aren't you? Stop it.

If someone has keeping a closed guard on someone bigger than them there are certain reasonable assumptions you can draw, like: yuo=stoopid

It's not rocket science,Dude, for someone having problems with the fundamentals of closed and open guard, rubber guard is indeed rocket science. :violent1:
Open your guard, and don't lie flat on your back. Don't let him posture up, pull him down and stretch him out. In addition, move your hips and keep him off balance. Attack with sweeps and collar chokes, and see where this leads.

Holy Moons of Jupiter and Magic Pants, Batman! Rubber Guard is a little rockety, actually. The position itself is an open, but non-posturing guard at the best of times, or begging for an easy pass at the worst. This is the whole reason people dislike RG, as it's open and if you do it wrong, you've got your leg dangling out there waiting to be shoved down and passed. Suggesting RG before Open is bad mojo, IMO.
I use high guard alot, but I do no-gi. When they go to pass on my low guard, I scoop one or more arms and reel them back in to keep from being split, but I am a big guy (235 lbs.)-, so I rarely go up against anyone larger than me. The few that are larger still don't give me much trouble there because I have fairly long legs and am 6'2". I can't help much from the angle of being small.
As for gi, I have rolled a few times with the gi and I am still figuring it out, so I won't even begin to comment.

I never said learn rubber guard before open guard. Someone had already suggested open guard, rubber is an option, so I posted it as such.
But fine whatever, Vulgar don't do it because apparently it's too hard. *Edit: Actually, in retrospect - I was lucky enough to have blue belts and also the instructor trying to teach themselves rubber guard, so for people who don't have that luxury, I can see it being pretty hard to learn. Or maybe it's just intrinsically hard. It's still an option, whenever you're ready for it Vulgar.
Has anyone trained at Legends Gym with Bravo himself? How long before he throws his people into rubber guard material?
