I use to watch that show as a kid. WMAC masters was the **** back then. Wasnt that Bruce Lee's daughter who use to host the show? What is her name....Shannon Lee. I think.

No doubt it was fun to watch. It got a little old though with it's WWE-like side storylines and what looked like life meters.

And yes, that was Bruce Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee. They also had some cool other people, like "Superstar" HoSung Pak, who was the original Mortal Kombat videogame Liu Kang.

Yeah, fun to watch, but ridiculous. It might as well have been a Mortal Kombat video game. I remember an episode where "Superstar" HoSung Pak won the championship from a TKD Olympic medalist (Herb Perez? that could be waaaaay off) because they were fighting on a platfrom and basically surrounded with a pit that was really deep. It was about one step up from fighting ona bridge with spikes below.

HoSung Pak (who I'd put my money on any day anyway in this match up) won because the other guy did a jump kick (a really stupid move considering Pak was at the edge of the platform) that missed and really had no chance of ever connecting and he went over the edge and into the pit.

Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II.....WMAC was basically marketed to the kids who played these games. It was blatantly obvious with the costumes and life meters. In the end the show failed.

Yeah, but the life bars are so stupid for a live action show, my mind didn't really want to believe that those are what they were. In most cases the costumes gave it away, except that you sometimes came across one that was so ridiculous it couldn't be explained. The dude that went by "The Machine" comes to mind. Part Robocop, part dude with dreads, and overall a bad Star Trek villain.

I still love the bad storylines trying to be somewhat moralistic:"oh no, we just put red pepper in Chris Cassamassa's glove and it burned him so badly he couldn't focus and lost the match: moral of the story, don't play with red pepper kids."

Other times it did a bad job of making you feel emotional. Then out of nowhere, let's focus on Shannon Lee trying to start up a singing career that will never happen!

I remember at a tournement one time some wushu guy told me that XMA was AWESOME and he was trying to learm how to do it and training really hard. He also told me that the typicall bs about how what they train in wushu is really effective and way to D34dl3y to use in sparring.

that guy who played "the machine" was also in the first mortal kombat movie. Fighting Lui Kang in this sand arena. Maybe all of those shows/movies was in kahoots as a conspiracy to take over martial arts and then the world.

I faintly remember that. They should have kept him in Machine gear and called him Cyrax or Sektor. Kahoots though, I don't know. Some of those in the original Mortal Kombat game tried to sue, stating that they were supposed to have dibbs on movie roles and royalties if a movie was ever made. That's why after the second game, a lot of the cast had been changed.

But maybe that's just part of the conspiracy.

The basic mathematical formula for XMA:

2(Tae Bo) + 0.5(Gymnastics + Cheerleading) + 2(Martial Art Forms) - 5(Functional Combat) = XMA

Feel free to add other parts or change figures into my "source code."
